Where to Eat

Eating in Tenerife is an experience in itself, because the island has the ability to surprise with both local and international offerings. Canarian cuisine, sometimes little known outside the country, is a simple but flavorful treasure. Beyond the typical wrinkled potatoes, here you can enjoy dishes like rabbit in salmorejo, garlic chicken, gofio escaldón, Gomero almogrote, or homemade chickpeas. These recipes have been passed down from generation to generation and, while not requiring complicated techniques, are captivating for their authenticity and that homemade touch that is felt in every bite. But Tenerife isn't just traditional: the island is a culinary crossroads. Due to its historical ties with Latin America, it's super easy to find South American restaurants here with dishes ranging from Venezuelan arepas and cachapas to Peruvian ceviches. It's like traveling without leaving the island, all with that local touch that connects deeply with Canarian culture. Furthermore, the multiculturalism goes even further: there's Italian, Asian, Indian, African, Lebanese cuisine... practically anything you can think of. The good thing is that you don't have to go to a big city to try it; in Tenerife, you'll find everything from sophisticated Michelin-starred restaurants to small, family-run establishments that surprise with their flavors. And when it comes to atmosphere, there's something for everyone: quiet terraces facing the sea for a relaxed dinner, hidden guachinches in the north where you can eat like at home, or modern establishments in tourist areas with creative offerings. In the end, the food in Tenerife reflects what the island is all about: diverse, open to the world, but deeply rooted. The beauty is that you can go from a typical Canarian lunch to an international dinner without moving too far, and always with the feeling of discovering something new.
