Ravelo el Canario
El Sauzal

Must-try dishes
Canarian stew
Goat meat
Escaldón
The trip up to Ravelo to eat at El Canario is well worth it if you're looking for authentic Canarian cuisine, without any frills or forced modern touches. Here, everything revolves around traditional dishes, those that taste like home and the countryside. Escaldón and puchero canario are two of their great classics, but the menu is extensive and very well-balanced: fabada (Asturian bean stew), chickpeas, goat meat, carne fiesta (a type of Canarian stew), rabbit, cuttlefish, salted fish, Iberian pork shoulder, or chops, always accompanied by potatoes and well-made mojo sauces.
The portions are truly generous, and the quality-price ratio is one of its strong points. Eating well, with plenty of food, and without surprises on the bill is part of the experience. Many dishes are served exactly as they've always been cooked, without any frills, and that's much appreciated. Even the warm bread with butter and the homemade desserts—especially the quesillo (a type of Canarian custard)—reinforce that feeling of honest cooking.
The atmosphere is very welcoming, with friendly and professional service from the staff. Javier, the owner, is usually attentive and conveys that bar-restaurant atmosphere that's becoming increasingly rare. It's a popular spot for both locals and those who come specifically to eat here, so it's not unusual to find a queue.
If you're looking for typical Canarian food, well-prepared, reasonably priced, and away from the tourist crowds, El Canario is a sure bet. You don't come here to experiment; you come to eat well.

Where to eat
Sora Kai
If you come to Sora Kai in El Sauzal, it's primarily for the views and the excellent Japanese food. You sit on their open terraces facing the sea and Mount Teide, enjoying a relaxed atmosphere that makes the sunset seem to last longer. Here, Japanese cuisine has a modern twist, the service is friendly and professional, and the overall feeling is that of a place to linger, chatting over a drink and some sushi.
What to see
Parque Natural El Montillo
El Montillo Natural Park in La Matanza de Acentejo is a vast green space where you can enjoy the fresh air without leaving the city. It's a complete park, with children's play areas, a café, lakes with waterfalls, picnic areas, viewpoints, a dog park, a beach soccer field, a climbing wall, and a skate park, all surrounded by lush vegetation and tranquility—ideal for a unique day out.
Activities
Forestal Park Tenerife
An adventure awaits you among the trees at Forestal Park Tenerife: enormous zip lines, suspension bridges, and climbing nets in the heart of the Las Lagunetas pine forest. It's perfect if you want to disconnect from the beach, breathe fresh air, and get your adrenaline pumping with family or friends.
Beaches
Mesa del Mar
Visiting Mesa del Mar is like stepping into a tranquil corner where northern Tenerife feels most authentic. Upon arrival, you'll find a small coastal village nestled between cliffs, natural pools, and the open sea. Here, everything invites you to slow down: walk along the water's edge, sit and gaze at the Atlantic, and enjoy a local atmosphere, unhurried and unpretentious.
Nightlife
Shopping
Mercadillo del Agricultor Tacoronte
If you come to this town and crave authentic local flavors, the Tacoronte Farmers' Market is my go-to spot. It's a traditional farmers' market where the producers themselves sell fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey, breads, and family wines directly from their farms to you—no middlemen—all fresh and in season. The atmosphere is lively and genuine, perfect for picking up products that truly make a difference in taste.
Sports
Barranquismo Barranco Hondo
Barranco Hondo, in the municipality of Candelaria, offers an ideal canyoning experience for those seeking adventure in a natural, uncrowded setting. Its route combines rappels, trail sections, and natural pools, surrounded by volcanic walls covered in native vegetation. It is a technical and visually spectacular descent, where you can appreciate the silence and power of the southeastern Tenerife landscape.
Trekking
El Sauzal - Fuente del Pino
The route connecting El Sauzal with Fuente del Pino in La Matanza is a local trail, ideal for enjoying the tranquility of northern Tenerife. It runs through vineyards, ravines, and small rural roads, with views of the sea and Mount Teide. It's a relatively simple but charming route that combines nature and tradition, as the fountain was historically a meeting place for shepherds and neighbors.
