Heladería Artesanal la Tejita

La Tejita

Must-try dishes
Ice cream

If you've spent the day at La Tejita beach or are in the area and fancy something sweet and refreshing, Heladería Artesanal La Tejita is a great place for a quick and pleasant stop. It's one of those places that works particularly well thanks to its location and its product: delicious ice cream, especially in the heat of the island's south.

The focus is on artisanal ice cream with a wide variety of flavors, from the most classic to more unusual options. It's the kind of place you can return to several times and try something different each time, whether in a tub or a cone. They also usually have other cold or sweet treats to accompany your ice cream, making it a convenient spot for an impromptu snack.

The atmosphere is quite relaxed, very much in keeping with the area: people coming from the beach, leisurely strolls, and the more relaxed pace of life typical of this part of the south. It's not a place to sit for long periods, but rather to buy your ice cream and enjoy it outdoors, while walking or finding a spot near the sea.

Another plus is its easy accessibility if you're in El Médano or the surrounding area, making it perfect for a quick stop or a simple plan after lunch or at sunset.

If you're looking for something fresh, fast, and well-made, this place fits the bill perfectly. A simple plan: ice cream, a stroll, and some downtime by the sea.

Where to eat

D´Tapas

If you work in the Las Chafiras area and are looking for a simple place to have an early breakfast or a good lunch without spending a lot, Cafetería De Tapas is a very practical option. The place caters to local workers, so it opens early and is great for quick breakfasts and a set lunch menu for €11. The food is homemade, tasty, and well-prepared for the price, served in a clean and uncomplicated atmosphere.

What to see

La Hoya

The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.

Activities

Avistamiento de Aves en Montaña Roja

The Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in El Médano, is one of the best places in southern Tenerife for birdwatching. Its semi-arid environment, salt marshes, and coastal areas provide refuge and resting places for numerous migratory species. Kentish plovers, herons, curlews, and sandpipers are common, as well as resident birds such as the trumpeter finch and the stone curlew. It's an ideal place to observe winged wildlife in peace and tranquility.

Beaches

Cuevas del Trigo

Cuevas del Trigo beach is one of those wild corners of southern Tenerife where you'll feel the island remains untouched. A secluded stretch of volcanic coastline, with natural caves carved into the rock and a tranquil atmosphere, it's ideal for disconnecting, taking leisurely strolls, and listening only to the sea and the wind.

Miel Tament

Tament, which means "honey" in the Amazigh language, is an artisanal gem produced on the same estate that makes Nevales de Abona wine, using Canarian black bees. It is multifloral, pure, and deep golden in color, with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness. Although it doesn't have an official organic seal, it is produced using sustainable and traditional methods. Like the wines, this product can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers Market, at Elsa's stand.

Sports

Circuito Motocross

The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.

Trekking

Sendero Montaña Roja

Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
