Titolo 4

Miel Tament

Abona

Tament honey—a word that means "honey" in the Amazigh language—is a living tribute to the Canary Islands' most ancient roots and to the union between the earth, flowers, and bees. It is produced on Pedro and Roland's estate, the same place where Nevales wines are born, and shares their philosophy of limited, artisanal, and environmentally friendly production.

Tament is made using Canarian black bees, a unique native species adapted to the arid climate of southern Tenerife. Its creators are members of the CRIANCA association, which protects and promotes traditional beekeeping on the island. Although the honey follows all the principles of organic production—chemical-free, with artisanal extraction and absolute respect for the hives—it does not carry the official seal due to bureaucratic issues.

Multifloral, Tament reflects the natural diversity of the environment in its flavor: broom, tajinaste, verodes, cardones, and other wildflowers. Its intense golden color, smooth texture, and medium viscosity make it perfect for both breakfast and sipping on its own, appreciating its floral nuances and light mineral notes.

The CRIANCA Association has a sanitary-registered extraction room, guaranteeing the purity and quality of the product. Each jar is filled with care, without over-filtering or overheating, to preserve the honey's natural properties and characteristic aroma.

Like Nevales wines, it can only be purchased at the San Isidro Farmers' Market, at Elsa's stand, where homemade mojos and gofios are also sold. Tament is not just another honey: it is a very limited-edition product, made with soul, condensing centuries of history, nature, and island tradition in every golden drop.

Where to eat

D´Tapas

If you work in the Las Chafiras area and are looking for a simple place to have an early breakfast or a good lunch without spending a lot, Cafetería De Tapas is a very practical option. The place caters to local workers, so it opens early and is great for quick breakfasts and a set lunch menu for €11. The food is homemade, tasty, and well-prepared for the price, served in a clean and uncomplicated atmosphere.

What to see

La Hoya

The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.

Activities

Avistamiento de Aves en Montaña Roja

The Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in El Médano, is one of the best places in southern Tenerife for birdwatching. Its semi-arid environment, salt marshes, and coastal areas provide refuge and resting places for numerous migratory species. Kentish plovers, herons, curlews, and sandpipers are common, as well as resident birds such as the trumpeter finch and the stone curlew. It's an ideal place to observe winged wildlife in peace and tranquility.

Beaches

Cuevas del Trigo

Cuevas del Trigo beach is one of those wild corners of southern Tenerife where you'll feel the island remains untouched. A secluded stretch of volcanic coastline, with natural caves carved into the rock and a tranquil atmosphere, it's ideal for disconnecting, taking leisurely strolls, and listening only to the sea and the wind.

Nightlife
Shopping

Vino Nevales

Nevales wine, owned by Pedro and Roland, is a hidden gem in southern Tenerife. The white wine, made with Listán Blanco and Albillo, and the red wine, made with Listan Negro and Shiraz, aged for six months in barrels, represent one of the smallest productions with a Designation of Origin on the island: just 350 liters of white and 250 liters of red per year. It is harvested entirely by hand, and its production is artisanal. It can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers' Market, at Elsa's stand, alongside local honeys, mojos, and gofios.

Sports

Circuito Motocross

The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.

Trekking

Sendero Montaña Roja

Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
