Titolo 4
Vino Nevales
Abona

To speak of Nevales de Abona wine is to speak of one of Tenerife's most exclusive productions. In a landscape of sunny midlands and trade winds, this small family estate produces its wine with a care that borders on artisanal. In fact, Nevales is the smallest winery with a Protected Designation of Origin on the island, and its annual production is around 350 liters of white and 250 liters of red, a figure that makes each bottle truly unique.
The estate has approximately 1,000 vines, of which 400 are white grapes and 600 are black grapes. The white wine is made primarily from Listán Blanco, the most representative variety of southern Tenerife, and Albillo, a typical grape of the archipelago, especially from La Palma. The red wine is made from Listan Negro, also typical of the Canary Islands. Shiraz is aged for six months in oak barrels. Both are hand-picked, bunch by bunch, in a harvest that maintains the spirit of traditional viticulture. Although the wine is not certified organic, its manual production and minimal use of treatments ensure it retains a purity very close to natural.
Every step of the process—from harvesting to fermentation—is carried out in a traditional manner, resulting in a dry, clean white wine with fresh notes. The red wine has well-balanced tannins and acidity, dry and with a moderate to strong palate and a deeply volcanic character that reflects the soil and climate of the southern part of the island. There are no large runs or retail locations: the only point of sale is at Elsa's stand at the San Isidro Farmers' Market, where you can also find local honeys, mojos, and gofios.
This limitation is not a disadvantage, but part of its charm. Drinking Nevales is like savoring a piece of Tenerife in its most authentic form: minimal production, a process faithful to its roots, and a history of dedication that is evident in every sip. It's the kind of wine you don't search for on a menu, but rather discover by talking to the winemaker, among market stalls and the aromas of tradition.
If you are a wine connoisseur, don't miss this gem of the island's most authentic viticulture and enjoy an experience as exclusive as tasting this authentic Tenerife wine.

Where to eat
D´Tapas
If you work in the Las Chafiras area and are looking for a simple place to have an early breakfast or a good lunch without spending a lot, Cafetería De Tapas is a very practical option. The place caters to local workers, so it opens early and is great for quick breakfasts and a set lunch menu for €11. The food is homemade, tasty, and well-prepared for the price, served in a clean and uncomplicated atmosphere.
What to see
La Hoya
The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.
Activities
Avistamiento de Aves en Montaña Roja
The Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in El Médano, is one of the best places in southern Tenerife for birdwatching. Its semi-arid environment, salt marshes, and coastal areas provide refuge and resting places for numerous migratory species. Kentish plovers, herons, curlews, and sandpipers are common, as well as resident birds such as the trumpeter finch and the stone curlew. It's an ideal place to observe winged wildlife in peace and tranquility.
Beaches
Cuevas del Trigo
Cuevas del Trigo beach is one of those wild corners of southern Tenerife where you'll feel the island remains untouched. A secluded stretch of volcanic coastline, with natural caves carved into the rock and a tranquil atmosphere, it's ideal for disconnecting, taking leisurely strolls, and listening only to the sea and the wind.
Nightlife
Shopping
Miel Tament
Tament, which means "honey" in the Amazigh language, is an artisanal gem produced on the same estate that makes Nevales de Abona wine, using Canarian black bees. It is multifloral, pure, and deep golden in color, with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness. Although it doesn't have an official organic seal, it is produced using sustainable and traditional methods. Like the wines, this product can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers Market, at Elsa's stand.
Sports
Circuito Motocross
The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.
Trekking
Sendero Montaña Roja
Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
