Titolo 4
Mercadillo El Médano
El Médano

The El Médano Market is one of the liveliest events in southern Tenerife, a space that combines the bohemian atmosphere of this coastal town with the tradition of open-air markets. Located on the seafront promenade, very close to the main beach, it brings together dozens of stalls selling all kinds of items: summer clothing, accessories, shoes, bags, local crafts, jewelry, home decor, and small gifts perfect for taking home a unique souvenir.
What sets it apart is its setting: the market unfolds against the backdrop of the sea, the constant breeze, and the hustle and bustle of El Médano, known as a meeting point for surfers, families, and travelers looking for a relaxed atmosphere. Walking among its stalls is both a shopping and leisure experience, as the promenade invites you to stop, chat with the vendors, and enjoy the typical street life of the area.
The El Médano Market is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., making it a must-visit for those spending the weekend in the area. Many visitors combine their visit with a swim at the beach or a meal at the nearby bars, making it part of a complete seaside experience. Beyond shopping, it's a reflection of local life and a space that exudes the cosmopolitan and relaxed character of this corner of southern Tenerife.

If you're in the La Tejita area and fancy something refreshing after the beach, this ice cream shop is a great place to stop. Here you'll find artisanal ice creams with a variety of delicious flavors, perfect for a quick treat while you're strolling or relaxing after a day at the beach. It's a simple, pleasant, and very convenient spot to indulge without any fuss.
What to see
Tajao
San Miguel de Tajao is a fishing village in southeastern Tenerife where the sea sets the pace. You walk among low houses and beached boats, with the Atlantic always in front of you and the smell of fresh fish wafting from the restaurants along the coast. Here, pebble coves, volcanic sand, and an arid landscape coexist, giving the place a very distinctive and recognizable character.
Activities
Avistamiento de Aves en Montaña Roja
The Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in El Médano, is one of the best places in southern Tenerife for birdwatching. Its semi-arid environment, salt marshes, and coastal areas provide refuge and resting places for numerous migratory species. Kentish plovers, herons, curlews, and sandpipers are common, as well as resident birds such as the trumpeter finch and the stone curlew. It's an ideal place to observe winged wildlife in peace and tranquility.
Beaches
Cuevas del Trigo
Cuevas del Trigo beach is one of those wild corners of southern Tenerife where you'll feel the island remains untouched. A secluded stretch of volcanic coastline, with natural caves carved into the rock and a tranquil atmosphere, it's ideal for disconnecting, taking leisurely strolls, and listening only to the sea and the wind.
Nightlife
Shopping
Miel Tament
Tament, which means "honey" in the Amazigh language, is an artisanal gem produced on the same estate that makes Nevales de Abona wine, using Canarian black bees. It is multifloral, pure, and deep golden in color, with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness. Although it doesn't have an official organic seal, it is produced using sustainable and traditional methods. Like the wines, this product can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers Market, at Elsa's stand.
Sports
Circuito Motocross
The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.
Trekking
Sendero Montaña Roja
Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
