Tasca 61 bio

La Laguna

Must-try dishes
House Salad
El Hierro Beef

Tasca 61 Bio is a well-kept secret on Viana Street, in the historic heart of La Laguna. Since 2010, they have championed clean, locally sourced cuisine: seasonal fruits and vegetables from planned organic farms, certified organic ingredients, and a golden rule in both the dining room and kitchen: fresh produce, no microwaves. The menu is deliberately concise and changes with the latest farm-fresh ingredients; this allows them to maintain a high standard in every dish and provide a warm and personal touch to their guests.

Among the signature dishes that best define their style are the House Salad (a mix of leaves, toasted seeds, and seasonal raw vegetables), the Vegetable Salad with vegan mayonnaise, the Eggplant Gratin with homemade tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, and basil, and the Icod Eggs with truffle cream and Palo Alto potatoes. For those who love hearty stews, there's always a daily special depending on availability (lentils, chickpeas, or beans). And yes, there's room for meat lovers: a single beef option from El Hierro—sourced from Carnicería El Pinar—reminding us that local sourcing can also mean sustainable animal protein. The menu is rounded out by a vegetable lasagna with spelt sheets (sometimes colored with beetroot or turmeric) and a homemade beef lasagna.

The wine list is small but thoughtful: local organic wines by the glass (like Amaral or Pagos Reverón) and a few natural/biodynamic options, as well as Canarian kombucha and natural lemonade. All this takes place in a small, unpretentious space where personal attention is key: you come to eat well, at a leisurely pace, and with the peace of mind of knowing the origin of everything on your plate.

Where to eat

Focacceria MassaMonti

Focacceria MassaMonti, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is an innovative establishment where focaccia is reinvented with high-quality, artisanal products. Highlights include their focaccia brioche bread, original fillings made with Italian ingredients, and a unique, flavorful, and expertly executed menu, perfect for enjoying at the counter or taking away.

What to see

Biblioteca de Arte TEA

If you need a quiet place in the heart of Santa Cruz to stop for a moment, the TEA Art Library is perfect for escaping the city's hustle and bustle. Here you can sit and read, study, or simply spend some time in silence surrounded by books and contemporary architecture. The space is spacious, bright, and very pleasant, ideal for those seeking tranquility, culture, and a different atmosphere within the city.

Activities

Albergue Comarcal Valle Colino

The Valle Colino Regional Shelter in La Laguna is Tenerife's main shelter for abandoned animals. In addition to caring for and sheltering dogs and cats, it offers the opportunity to volunteer in its daily work: walking animals, helping with cleaning them, or assisting with adoption campaigns. A caring and emotionally rewarding experience for animal lovers.

Beaches

Playa de la Nea

La Nea Beach in Radazul is a volcanic black sand beach perfect for lingering. It's very close to Santa Cruz, but the atmosphere here is calmer, with a breakwater that softens the waves and a promenade along the entire shore. It's a comfortable beach, well-integrated into the surroundings and very popular with locals.

Nightlife

Urban 180

If you enjoy sipping a drink with city views and continuing the night without leaving one spot, Azotea Urban 180 is one of those rooftop bars I love to visit. Located on the seventh floor of the Hotel Urban Anaga in Santa Cruz, it shows: you get a panoramic view of the city, the sunsets take on a whole new dimension, the music and cocktails liven up the atmosphere, and as night falls, the place transforms into a lively rooftop club with a great vibe and people ready to have a good time.

Shopping

Mercadillo del Agricultor Tacoronte

If you come to this town and crave authentic local flavors, the Tacoronte Farmers' Market is my go-to spot. It's a traditional farmers' market where the producers themselves sell fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey, breads, and family wines directly from their farms to you—no middlemen—all fresh and in season. The atmosphere is lively and genuine, perfect for picking up products that truly make a difference in taste.

Sports

Santa Cruz Extreme

The Santa Cruz Extreme is an iconic mountain race in Tenerife, which runs through Anaga Rural Park and finishes in Santa Cruz. It has several categories (60 km, 33 km, 18 km, 10 km, and a vertical race), with steep slopes, routes along trails, and traditional farmhouses. Held in October, it attracts runners of many nationalities; it is also notable for its sustainable approach and for promoting the natural and rural value of Anaga.

Trekking

El Tomadero

A circular route in Anaga Rural Park connecting Punta del Hidalgo with El Tomadero, ascending via a channel carved into the rock and descending through the ravine. It's approximately 6 km with little elevation gain, but includes technical and exposed sections that increase the difficulty. The channel is in very good condition and clean, although it can be quite vertigo-inducing in some places. The descent through the ravine is rocky and uncomfortable. A short but demanding route, not recommended for people with vertigo.
