Surf Las Americas

Las Americas

Playa de las Américas, in southern Tenerife, is the jewel of island surfing thanks to its consistency and variety. It's a volcanic reef break that offers powerful, fast left-hand waves—most notably the iconic spot called "La Izquierda"—as well as an equally challenging right-hander known as "La Derecha del Cartel." These waves, especially active between October and March, can reach over 1.8 meters and attract advanced surfers.

But it's not all about technical demands. The beach is very popular with surf schools: it has reasonably safe surf zones and group lessons available year-round, starting from just €40 per session, even for children as young as 8 or 10. This accessibility, along with the infrastructure (board rentals, shops, showers, and good transport links), makes it suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers.

As an added bonus, Arona City Council has installed informational signage in five key surfing areas (La Izquierda, El Medio, La Derecha, El Dedo, Fitenia), with updated maps, rules, and tides to improve surfer safety and experience.

Where to eat

Music Hall Tavern

Music Hall Tavern in Playa de las Américas is a drag dinner show in English, full of humor, music, and energy. A cheeky and brilliant show with a three-course menu, live performers, and that irreverent touch that makes it one of the most fun nights out in southern Tenerife.

What to see
Activities

Mini Golf Santiago

Mini Golf Santiago, located in the heart of Playa de las Américas, is a classic family recreation spot in southern Tenerife. With a wide, well-maintained course packed with details, it's ideal for a fun time with friends or children. Its nighttime lighting and location among hotels, bars, and shops make it a perfect stop for those looking to relax and enjoy themselves without getting away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist scene.

Beaches

Playa Del Camisón

Playa del Camisón is a small but very popular beach, right in the heart of Las Américas. It is surrounded by hotels, so it tends to have quite a lot of tourism, but still manages to maintain a fairly quiet atmosphere.

The sand is golden, the water is usually calm thanks to the breakwaters, and it is well kept. It's perfect for a relaxing swim or to lie in the sun overlooking a postcard-perfect sea.

Nightlife

Sam's corner

Sam's Corner Tenerife, in Playa de las Américas, is a renovated classic that maintains its lively atmosphere but now features live music several nights. Unlike the surrounding bars, it doesn't offer table service, which allows for the lowest drink prices in the area. Very close to the nightlife, it has become an ideal meeting place to kick off the party with a relaxed and affordable atmosphere.

Shopping

La Milla de Oro

The Golden Mile is a 1.5km-long seaside avenue, ideal for strolling, shopping, and dining. It's lined with shops and well-known brands, a variety of restaurants, cafés, and bars with a lively atmosphere all day long. At night, illuminated fountains and music attract tourists and locals alike. It faces the promenade, with underground parking and easy access. Perfect for a relaxing getaway.
