Titolo 4
Guachinche La Montañita
San Miguel de Abona

Must-try dishes
Ribs with potatoes and pineapple
Grilled meats
Visiting Guachinche La Montañita in San Miguel de Abona is like pulling over and immersing yourself in an unpretentious, island-style meal. The place has a rustic and relaxed atmosphere: a spacious dining room, simple tables, and a warm ambiance. What matters here is what's inside—the food, the wine, the conversation—more than the decor.
The menu reflects this approach: appetizers to share that work wonderfully (grilled or fresh cheese, chickpeas, fish fritters), grilled meat dishes like sirloin steak on a hot stone—one of their specialties—ribs with potatoes and pineapple, carne fiesta (a traditional Argentine stew), and homemade desserts like cookie cake or quesillo (a type of flan). They also offer house wine, made in-house, which adds to the authenticity.
What I love about this guachinche is that it feels accessible: it doesn't seem designed just for tourists, but for people who want to eat well, without any fuss, and leave satisfied. The price is reasonable, the portions generous, and the service friendly: they welcome you like old friends, explain the dishes and wine, and that always makes a difference.
The setting also contributes to the experience: it's right next to the road to San Miguel, making it easy to arrive by car, park, and relax. It's not luxurious, but it's authentic, and often that's exactly what you're looking for in Tenerife.
If you're in the south of the island and fancy a traditional Canarian meal that makes you want to linger, with good wine, grilled meat, generous portions, and a relaxed atmosphere, Guachinche La Montañita is the perfect choice. You'll love it if you appreciate authentic, local, and delicious food.

Where to eat
Heladería Artesanal la Tejita
If you're in the La Tejita area and fancy something refreshing after the beach, this ice cream shop is a great place to stop. Here you'll find artisanal ice creams with a variety of delicious flavors, perfect for a quick treat while you're strolling or relaxing after a day at the beach. It's a simple, pleasant, and very convenient spot to indulge without any fuss.
What to see
La Hoya
The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.
Activities
Avistamiento de Aves en Montaña Roja
The Montaña Roja Special Nature Reserve, in El Médano, is one of the best places in southern Tenerife for birdwatching. Its semi-arid environment, salt marshes, and coastal areas provide refuge and resting places for numerous migratory species. Kentish plovers, herons, curlews, and sandpipers are common, as well as resident birds such as the trumpeter finch and the stone curlew. It's an ideal place to observe winged wildlife in peace and tranquility.

Miel Tament
Tament, which means "honey" in the Amazigh language, is an artisanal gem produced on the same estate that makes Nevales de Abona wine, using Canarian black bees. It is multifloral, pure, and deep golden in color, with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness. Although it doesn't have an official organic seal, it is produced using sustainable and traditional methods. Like the wines, this product can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers Market, at Elsa's stand.
Sports
Circuito Motocross
The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.
Trekking
Sendero Montaña Roja
Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
