Bodegas Viñatigo
La Guancha

In the heart of northern Tenerife, in La Guancha, stands Bodegas Viñátigo, a winemaking project that has transformed the Canary Islands' winemaking landscape. Founded in the 1990s by Juan Jesús Méndez, it has been characterized by a firm commitment to research, innovation, and, above all, the recovery of native varieties that were on the verge of extinction. Thanks to this effort, today you can taste wines made with grapes such as Marmajuelo, Gual, Vijariego Negro, and Baboso, all grown on volcanic soils and in a climate marked by the trade winds.
The winery combines tradition and modernity in a bioclimatic architectural space designed to blend into the landscape and minimize environmental impact. Its facilities are adapted to allow gravity to participate in the winemaking process, thus avoiding aggressive pumping that could alter the purity of the grapes. The result is wines that stand out for their freshness, minerality, and volcanic character, capable of conveying the uniqueness of the Canarian terroir.
Visitors can tour the vineyards on difficult-to-access hillsides, an example of heroic viticulture, and discover how human effort combines with nature to create unique wines. Guided tours include an explanation of the winemaking process, the historical importance of local varieties, and a tasting that allows visitors to appreciate the richness and diversity of the Canary Islands' winemaking heritage.
Bodegas Viñátigo not only offers wines of internationally recognized quality, but has also become a symbol of cultural identity and a beacon of innovation in the world of Canarian wine. A must-experience for those seeking to understand how tradition, science, and the volcanic landscape merge in every glass.
