Charco de La Laja

San Juan de la Rambla

Charco de La Laja is one of those places where the power of nature and the beauty of the Tenerife coastline combine in an almost magical way. Located in San Juan de la Rambla, this natural pool was sculpted by lava thousands of years ago and today forms a pool of calm waters, protected by natural walls that block the force of the Atlantic. Upon arrival, the contrast between the black of the volcanic rock and the blue-green of the water is breathtaking.

Going down to the pool involves climbing a steep but well-maintained staircase that descends from the promenade to sea level. The effort is worth it: below, the water is crystal clear, and you can see small fish among the crevices on the bottom. On calm days, it's ideal for swimming or snorkeling; however, as on the entire north coast, extreme caution should be exercised if there are waves or high tide, as the Atlantic can change rapidly.

What I like most about this spot is its authentic atmosphere. There are no beach bars or large facilities, just a small viewpoint from where you can contemplate the ocean and feel the constant sound of the waves. It's a place that retains that raw, natural feel, perfect for those looking for something quieter than the tourist beaches of the south. Plus, the town of San Juan de la Rambla is just up the road, with its cobblestone streets, local bars, and traditional Canarian houses, making it a perfect stop for a day trip.

Charco de La Laja isn't simply a place to swim; it's a visual and sensorial experience. Watching the tide slowly fill the pool, feeling the salty breeze, and the echo of the sea hitting the rocks reminds you why these natural pools are so special in Tenerife. A must-see if you love places with character, geological history, and unadulterated natural beauty.

Las Llanadas

If you enjoy discovering local products directly from their source, this small artisanal cheese factory in Los Realejos is one of those places where cheese is still made the traditional way. They work primarily with goat's milk and produce fresh, semi-cured, and smoked cheeses, as well as ricotta and other dairy products. It's a place closely linked to the primary sector of northern Tenerife, where the authentic flavor of Canarian cheese takes center stage.
