Tasca Taguara

La Escalona

Must-try dishes
Goat meat
Chickpeas
Fried chicken

When you step into Tasca Taguara in Ifonche, what you love most is the welcoming atmosphere that permeates everything: from the initial greeting to the moment you sit down and look at the menu. The restaurant has the feel of a traditional tavern, offering uncomplicated Spanish and Canarian cuisine, where the honest flavor of each dish takes center stage.

Here you won't find forced modern touches, but rather dishes reminiscent of classic, home-style cooking. The menu typically features home-style recipes, expertly prepared meats, stews, and side dishes that pair perfectly with a glass of wine or a refreshing beer. The service is friendly and welcoming, making you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive—something that makes all the difference when I want a good meal at a leisurely pace.

The simple, unpretentious space invites you to linger, chat with friends, and savor each dish at your own pace. It's the kind of place that's usually bustling with locals and visitors who return because they know the food delivers on its promise: flavor, generous portions, and character. Furthermore, being located in a peaceful area like Ifonche/La Escalona, the experience goes beyond just the food; it's part of a rural or inland getaway to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

For me, Tasca Taguara works perfectly if you want to escape the tourist crowds and try well-prepared traditional dishes, accompanied by friendly and uncomplicated service. Here, you eat with gusto and without artifice, just as it's always been done, and that in itself is worthwhile.

Where to eat

Simple

Simple Coffee Brunch in Adeje is much more than a coffee shop: it's a space that embraces the Slow Life philosophy, offering artisanal products, locally sourced ingredients, and a calming atmosphere. It's ideal for breakfast, brunch, or simply unwinding with a good coffee in a welcoming and carefully curated setting.

What to see

La Hoya

The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.

Activities

A.O.C. PETANCA, LOS CRISTIANOS

The A.O.C. Petanca Los Cristianos is a veteran club in the south of Tenerife, right across from the beach, where passion for this traditional sport is in the air. Located in a quiet, sunny area, it brings together local and visiting players looking for a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. More than just a court, it's a social meeting place where camaraderie, laughter, and healthy competition keep alive a deeply rooted custom in the Canary Islands.

Beaches

Playa de los Cristianos Puerto

Los Cristianos Beach, next to the port of the same name, is one of the most iconic beaches in southern Tenerife. Protected from the waves by the pier, it offers calm waters and golden sand, perfect for swimming and strolling. From the shore, you can observe the activity of the fishing port and the departure of ferries to La Gomera, combining a local atmosphere with the maritime charm of a traditional coastal town.

Nightlife

Roca Blanca

This beach club, located right on the seafront in one of the quietest areas of Los Cristianos, is ideal for enjoying a leisurely cocktail and stretching out the afternoon until sunset. It features a terrace with tables, a swimming pool, and Balinese beds, which should be reserved in advance. The atmosphere is relaxed, with music and a DJ, perfect for quiet get-togethers with friends or even for working from home with ocean views. It's not a place for formal dining, but rather for savoring the experience, the friendly service, and the sunset as the main attraction.

Shopping

Mercado del Agricultor del Valle de San Lorenzo

The San Lorenzo Valley Farmers Market, in the municipality of Arona, is a space where local farmers and artisans offer fruits, vegetables, cheeses, breads, wines, and traditional pastries directly to the public. With a warm and authentic atmosphere, it is an ideal place for those seeking fresh, quality products, while supporting the local economy and the agricultural traditions of southern Tenerife.

Sports

Tenerife Top Training

Tenerife Top Training is a high-performance sports center in La Caleta where you'll find Olympic-size swimming pools, football pitches, gyms, tennis courts, padel courts, a spa, and more. It's the perfect place if you want to train hard, get in shape, or practice a variety of sports with professional facilities.

Trekking

Montaña Tejina

If you enjoy less crowded hiking in southern Tenerife, this circular route around Montaña de Tejina is a very complete option. You'll walk approximately 13 km around this large volcanic crag, over a thousand meters high, which was a sacred site and key center of social interaction for the Guanches. The route passes through ravines, ancient threshing floors, small hermitages, and traditional agricultural remains. There's hardly any shade, but in return, you'll have open panoramic views for much of the way and a constant sense of a rural, volcanic, and mystical landscape.
