Titolo 4
Chinamada
Macizo de Anaga

Arriving in Chinamada is an experience in itself. The road narrows between mountains, the curves follow one after another, and suddenly, nestled among the crags of the Anaga massif, this troglodyte hamlet appears. Here, the houses aren't built: they're carved into the rock. That's the first striking image upon arrival: a small cluster of dwellings that literally blend into the landscape, as if the mountain had preserved them for centuries.
Chinamada belongs to the municipality of La Laguna and is part of the Anaga Biosphere Reserve, an environment where nature sets the pace. Walking through the village, the silence and calm are absolute: just a few dozen residents, paths leading in every direction, and breathtaking views of the Río ravine and the sea. On clear days, you can even make out the outline of Punta del Hidalgo, with the ocean stretching out in the distance.
What I love most about Chinamada is the feeling of absolute authenticity. There are no shops, no noise, no rush. Just mountains, wind, and stone. Traditional architecture, inhabited caves, and small terraced gardens showcase how the ancient inhabitants ingeniously adapted to the terrain. There's also a spectacular viewpoint and a small chapel that blends seamlessly into the surroundings as if it had always been there.
Several highly recommended trails start from Chinamada, such as the one that descends to Punta del Hidalgo, considered one of the most beautiful in northern Tenerife. It's a challenging route, but the views along the way more than compensate for any effort: cliffs, laurel forest vegetation, and the contrast between the green and the blue of the Atlantic.
In short: Chinamada will enchant you if you enjoy places where time stands still and nature reigns supreme. It's a unique corner, steeped in history and authenticity, ideal for those seeking to disconnect, hike, and discover the wildest and most genuine side of Tenerife.

What to see
Mirador Risco Amogoje
The Mirador del Risco Amogoje viewpoint offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Anaga Massif. From its heights, you can see the northern coast with its deep ravines, the hamlet of Taganana, and, in the distance, the Atlantic Ocean in its intense blue hues. A quiet and majestic spot that makes you feel small and encapsulates the wild essence of Anaga.
Activities
Albergue Comarcal Valle Colino
The Valle Colino Regional Shelter in La Laguna is Tenerife's main shelter for abandoned animals. In addition to caring for and sheltering dogs and cats, it offers the opportunity to volunteer in its daily work: walking animals, helping with cleaning them, or assisting with adoption campaigns. A caring and emotionally rewarding experience for animal lovers.
Beaches
Playa de Benijo
Benijo Beach, in northern Tenerife, is one of those places that seem like something out of this world. Wild, dark, and powerful, it combines volcanic sand with a rough sea and the silhouettes of rocks emerging from the Atlantic. It's ideal for those seeking pure nature, far from mass tourism. The sunset here is one of the most impressive on the island: the sun sets behind the rocks while the sea is tinged with gold and violet.

Shopping
Ron Guajiro
If you want to try a rum with a true Canarian identity, Guajiro is one of those that's part of the local culture. You'll notice it especially in the honey rum: sweet, smooth, and very easy to drink, perfect after a meal or on the rocks. They also have drier and oaked versions if you prefer something more robust. It's a very local product, the kind you'll find in traditional bars and shops around the island.
Sports
BMX Parque la Vega
The BMX circuit at Parque de La Vega in La Laguna is one of the most active spaces for freestyle enthusiasts in northern Tenerife. Surrounded by greenery and a youthful atmosphere, it offers a course with ramps, jumps, and modules ideal for practicing technique and style. It's a regular meeting point for local riders who appreciate its relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere, open to all levels.
Trekking
El Tomadero
A circular route in Anaga Rural Park connecting Punta del Hidalgo with El Tomadero, ascending via a channel carved into the rock and descending through the ravine. It's approximately 6 km with little elevation gain, but includes technical and exposed sections that increase the difficulty. The channel is in very good condition and clean, although it can be quite vertigo-inducing in some places. The descent through the ravine is rocky and uncomfortable. A short but demanding route, not recommended for people with vertigo.
