Barranco de Masca

Masca

If you're up for a real adventure in Tenerife, one you won't soon forget, the Masca Ravine is the place to go. This route is one of the most spectacular and famous on the island, both for the beauty of the landscape and the epic nature of the journey.

It all starts in the village of Masca, a hamlet straight out of the Teno Mountains. Just arriving is an experience: hairpin bends, cliffs, and breathtaking views. From there, the trail descends into a deep, wild ravine that looks like something out of Jurassic Park. Giant rocks, vertical walls, wild vegetation, and a breathtaking silence.

The route is about 10 km downhill (and another 10 km if you decide to climb back up), and it's no walk: you'll have to climb a bit, cross narrow areas, and pay attention to where you're stepping. But that's precisely what makes the experience so unique. You feel truly immersed in nature, isolated from the world, advancing between enormous rock walls that make you feel very, very small.

And the best part: at the end of the trail, after about three hours of descending, you reach a hidden cove overlooking the ocean. The contrast between the enclosed canyon and the open sea is brutal. Previously, you could return to Los Gigantes by boat from there, but now the route is a round trip on foot.

To do this route, you must book online in advance (access is controlled), and you must bring appropriate footwear, water, food, and some physical fitness, because the return climb is no small feat.

Berry’s

If you're strolling along the Los Gigantes harbor and fancy a proper ice cream, this is the place to stop. At Berry's, you'll immediately notice it's not your typical tourist ice cream: meticulously crafted flavors, a creamy texture, and combinations that are anything but ordinary. Order one, sit near the sea, and savor it at your leisure, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of this area.

What to see

Paisaje Lunar Teno Alto

The lunar landscape of Teno Alto, practically overshadowed by its "older brother," the lunar landscape of Vilaflor, is one of those places on the island that surprises with its serenity and natural beauty. Surrounded by silence and with sweeping views of the ravines and the ocean, it displays a terrain of light tones and gentle shapes that contrast with the vegetation and crags of the Teno massif. A little-known corner, but full of magic.

Activities

Avistamiento de Aves en Teno Alto

Teno Alto is one of Tenerife's best birdwatching spots. Its rural landscape and nearby cliffs create the perfect habitat for iconic species such as the common kestrel, the Cory's shearwater, and the great grey shrike. Canaries, common buzzards, endemic pigeons, and small forest birds can also be seen on its hills and ravines. It is a peaceful place, ideal for enjoying the flight of birds surrounded by nature.

Beaches

Piscina Natural Acantilados de los Gigantes

The Los Gigantes natural pool is a hidden spot among volcanic rocks, where you can swim with direct views of the imposing cliffs that give the area its name. Protected from the waves, it offers crystal-clear waters and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxing after a day at the beach or hiking. Just a few meters from the port, it combines natural charm with the convenience of bars and restaurants nearby, all against the spectacular backdrop of the Atlantic.

Via Ferrata Del Risco Blanco

The Risco Blanco via ferrata, in the heart of Guía de Isora, is one of Tenerife's most spectacular. It combines adventure, volcanic landscapes, and open views of Mount Teide and the Atlantic. It's not a route for beginners: it requires good physical fitness and a cool head, but the reward is an altitude experience with breathtaking panoramas and a unique sense of freedom.

Trekking

Circular Caserio de Teno Alto

A leisurely hike through the picturesque village of Teno Alto, in one of Tenerife's most rural and authentic corners. Ideal for those seeking traditional landscapes, rural Canarian architecture, and a close encounter with country life.
