Whenever I want to enjoy authentic Canarian products, I like to visit the Tacoronte Farmers' Market because it's unlike any other tourist market: here you find people from the countryside selling what they grow themselves, and that's evident in the freshness and aromas. Founded in the early 1980s as a space for farmers to sell directly to consumers, the market maintains that original spirit of farm-to-table sales and is a much-loved meeting place for locals and visitors alike.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, from the early hours, you can stroll along rows of stalls where fruits and vegetables burst with seasonal color. Bananas, mangoes, avocados, citrus fruits, and a good selection of vegetables are just the beginning. There are also artisanal cheeses, local honey, traditional bread, handmade pastries—and on some occasions, wine from family wineries—all with flavors you won't find in a supermarket.
Beyond its agricultural offerings, the market evokes the feeling of a village market where people greet each other, inquire about the harvest, or ask for advice on how to recognize a perfect product. This friendly atmosphere makes a visit not just about shopping, but a way to connect with Tenerife's agricultural tradition. Many farmers have been coming here for years, and their produce is not only fresh but also tells the story of the land where it's grown.
Furthermore, its location in the San Juan neighborhood, nestled between the midlands and the valley, gives you the feeling of being in an environment that blends countryside and village life. I like to go early because that way I get the widest variety of products and avoid the crowds; but even if I arrive later, there's always something interesting to discover or try.
It's a weekend market with direct contact with the farmers, products you can see and smell before buying, and that feeling that you're taking home something that was born and raised right here. That's why, for me, the Tacoronte Farmers Market is not just a place to shop: it's an experience of local flavor and agricultural tradition that is worth integrating into your visit to Tenerife.
