La Orotava
The Church of Our Lady of the Conception, located in the heart of La Orotava's historic center, is considered one of the masterpieces of Baroque architecture in the Canary Islands. Its origins date back to the 16th century, although the current building was rebuilt in the 18th century after suffering damage from an earthquake.
The church is notable for its volcanic stone façade and its two symmetrical towers, which have become a symbol of the town. Inside, the spaciousness of the nave, the intricate woodwork on the ceilings, and the richness of its altarpieces and sculptures are striking.
It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of Monument and forms part of the historical and artistic ensemble of La Orotava, one of the best-preserved heritage areas in Tenerife. Nearby are other points of interest such as the House of the Balconies and the Town Hall, making a visit to the church an essential stop on any tour of the old town.
