Paisaje Lunar

VilaFlor de Chasna

The route from Vilaflor to the Lunar Landscape, officially PR TF-72, is one of the most iconic hikes in southern Tenerife. It begins in Vilaflor, the highest municipality in all of Spain, at about 1,400 meters above sea level, surrounded by Canary Island pine forests, fresh air, and clear skies.

During the ascent, the trail winds through forest paths and areas of solidified lava, offering stunning views of the sea and mountains. The vegetation typical of this altitude—broom, rockrose, and rockrose—accompanies the journey, with stretches of shade under the pines and others exposed to the sun.

The highlight of the route is the Lunar Landscape, a geological formation formed by centuries of erosion on layers of pumice and volcanic ash. The formations resemble chimneys or white cones in contrast to the dark surroundings, creating an almost otherworldly scene. It is a very photogenic and peaceful place, especially if visited early in the morning or during the week.

After visiting the Lunar Landscape natural viewpoint, the trail returns to Vilaflor, completing a circular route that blends nature, altitude, and a profound silence interrupted only by the singing of birds and the crunch of the earth beneath your feet.
