The circular route through the hamlet of Teno Alto is an experience deeply connected to the rural history of Tenerife. This route, located in Teno Rural Park, allows you to explore on foot the paths that connect stone houses, old barns, small orchards, and grazing lands that are still in use today.
Along the trail, the hiker moves between cobbled paths and dirt tracks that wind through gentle hills, ravines, and ridges covered in native vegetation. The views of the northern cliffs and the ravines that drop to the sea are breathtaking, especially on clear days when you can even see the island of La Palma.
It is common to find herds of goats grazing or hear the echo of animal bells. Life here unfolds at a slow and authentic pace. If you take the route on a weekend, you can buy artisanal cheese directly from local shepherds or visit one of the small bars in the hamlet to sample traditional cuisine.
This route doesn't require much physical preparation and is perfect for those who want to discover a more traditional Tenerife, away from the usual tourist crowds. In spring, the paths are filled with wildflowers, and in autumn, dry, ochre tones dominate the landscape.

Where to eat
Mesón del Norte
If you're in the Las Portelas area and fancy some authentic Canarian food, Mesón del Norte is a sure bet. Here you'll find traditional dishes, generous portions, and a charming village bar atmosphere. It's a simple, unpretentious place where you can eat well at a good price, ideal for stopping after a day exploring the Masca or Teno area. It's also one of the highest-rated restaurants on the island for meat.
What to see
Paisaje Lunar Teno Alto
The lunar landscape of Teno Alto, practically overshadowed by its "older brother," the lunar landscape of Vilaflor, is one of those places on the island that surprises with its serenity and natural beauty. Surrounded by silence and with sweeping views of the ravines and the ocean, it displays a terrain of light tones and gentle shapes that contrast with the vegetation and crags of the Teno massif. A little-known corner, but full of magic.
Activities
