On the Los Silos promenade, next to the Atlantic waves and very close to the historic center, lies one of Tenerife's most striking and photogenic monuments: the complete skeleton of a fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), the second largest species on the planet after the blue whale. This installation, measuring more than 18 meters, is not just a decorative element, but an outreach project promoted to raise awareness about cetacean conservation and the richness of the marine fauna surrounding the archipelago.
Its open-air location, with the imposing Teno Massif and the sea as a backdrop, makes this place an ideal spot for photography and contemplation. The fin whale was found stranded, and rather than disappearing into anonymity, its skeleton was recovered, treated, and displayed as a symbol of the close relationship the islands have always had with the ocean: from the artisanal fishing practiced by the coastal Guanches to the modern protection of marine species.
Visiting it is not only impressive for its scale, but also invites reflection on the fragility of marine life and the importance of preserving one of the Canary Islands' most valuable ecosystems.
