Titolo 4

Avistamiento de Aves en Teno Alto

Parque Rural del Teno

Birdwatching in Teno Alto combines the serenity of an almost untouched rural environment with the natural richness of Tenerife's northwestern tip. This area, located within the Teno Rural Park, preserves a unique balance between traditional human activity—grazing, small vegetable gardens, ancient trails—and a biodiversity that remains virtually unaltered.

Open fields, slopes covered with tabaiba and cardon trees, and the impressive cliffs that descend to the Atlantic form distinct ecosystems where birds find refuge, food, and breeding grounds. It is common to see common kestrels hunting over the meadows, or common buzzards gliding on the thermal currents that rise from the ravines.

In the warmer months, attentive visitors can distinguish the call of the shrike, a species with a curious behavior and intense gaze, or hear the soft calls of the island's endemic pigeons—the rabiche and the turqué—that inhabit the nearby laurel forests. In the coastal areas, the spectacle continues with the low-flying flight of the Cory's shearwater, returning at dusk to its nests hidden in the cliffs, offering one of the area's most memorable images.

You can also observe smaller species such as the bush canary, the meadow pipit, and the Canary Island stonechat, which liven up the trails with their constant movement. During spring and summer, Teno Alto is full of life and song, while in autumn, migratory birds find a resting and feeding spot here before continuing their journey.

The silence and tranquility of the surroundings allow for peaceful birdwatching, free from interference. The best times are usually early in the day or at dusk, when the light highlights the golden tones of the cliffs and the birds are most active.

Birdwatching in Teno Alto is not just a naturalistic activity; it is a way to connect with the most rural and authentic soul of Tenerife, where rural traditions and wild nature coexist in perfect harmony.

Paisaje Lunar Teno Alto

The lunar landscape of Teno Alto, practically overshadowed by its "older brother," the lunar landscape of Vilaflor, is one of those places on the island that surprises with its serenity and natural beauty. Surrounded by silence and with sweeping views of the ravines and the ocean, it displays a terrain of light tones and gentle shapes that contrast with the vegetation and crags of the Teno massif. A little-known corner, but full of magic.
