The Golden Cod
Los Gigantes

Must-try dishes
Golden cod
Francesinha
Cheesecake
The Golden Cod is one of those restaurants you don't expect to find, but it ends up making your visit unforgettable. Located opposite the port of Los Gigantes, in a historic building, it's a small, cozy, and uncrowded spot, ideal for a peaceful meal away from the hustle and bustle of other restaurants in the area.
Their concept is clear: Spanish cuisine with a strong Portuguese influence, prepared fresh with quality ingredients. The star dish is the bacalhau à Brás (golden cod), a Portuguese classic that they prepare here with spectacular balance and that many describe as a direct trip to Portugal. Another must-try is the francesinha from Porto, hearty and full of flavor.
But the menu doesn't stop there. The braised beef sandwich (boleto de carne estofada or mechada) is also a highlight, highly recommended by the owners themselves, as are homemade desserts like the cheesecake. To finish, it's practically obligatory to try the barraquito, prepared with care and personality.
Beyond the food, the soul of the place lies in its owners. José in the kitchen and Denis in the dining room create a warm, authentic, and welcoming atmosphere. It's not unusual for them to suggest swapping one dish for another freshly prepared one, or to offer special touches for children and regular customers. Here, there's no ultra-processed food or rushed service: everything is homemade, fresh daily, and prepared by someone who truly enjoys cooking.
The restaurant is simple yet pleasant, with nearby parking for easy access. The menu is varied without being extensive, which reinforces the feeling of careful and well-executed cuisine.
In short, The Golden Cod is a place where you eat well, receive excellent service, and leave wanting to return. A little corner in the port of Los Gigantes where cod reigns supreme and the ambiance makes you feel right at home.
