Vilaflor de Chasna
Vilaflor de Chasna

Vilaflor, located at over 1,400 meters above sea level, is the highest village in Tenerife and also one of the highest in Spain. Surrounded by Canary Island pine forests and beautiful almond groves, it combines culture, history, and nature in a rural setting with its own character.
The historic center centers around the Church of San Pedro Apóstol, built in the 17th century with a Mudejar coffered ceiling and notable religious works. Opposite it, you'll find the old agricultural mill, in use until 1915, and several stately homes, such as that of the Soler family, founders of the town. The Sanctuary of Santo Hermano Pedro, built on the saint's birthplace in homage to his life, welcomes pilgrims and worshipers from all over Tenerife.
Vilaflor's cobblestone streets, along with garden squares and carved wooden balconies, invite you to stroll slowly. Its cool climate, with an annual average of around 16°C, makes it an ideal retreat in summer or for autumn getaways. Its vineyards, located at altitudes reaching 1,600 meters, produce local wines renowned for their volcanic character and cool climate.
The municipality is also home to two natural giants: the emblematic Pino Gordo, over 700 years old and 45 meters tall, and the Pino de las Dos Pernadas, which stands at over 56 meters and is the tallest native tree in Spain. Near the town, the ancient Ruta del Hermano Pedro (Brother Pedro Route), a pilgrimage and livestock trail used by the saint in his youth, also passes through.
A famous legend tells that the town's name comes from a lovelorn captain who shouted "I saw the Chasna flower!" upon seeing a Guanche woman. Today, this tradition is reflected in the local Flower Festival, with music, flowers, and customs that celebrate the Chasna identity.
Vilaflor is perfect if you're looking for tranquility, nature trails like the Dwarf Pine or the Lunar Landscape monumental in tuff rocks, and a genuine rural experience. Here, every stone, tree, or vine tells a story that unites nature, faith, and heritage with an authentic Canarian flavor.
