Titolo 4
Mariposario del Drago
Icod de los Vinos

The Drago Butterfly Garden, next to the Ancient Dragon Tree in Icod de los Vinos, is an unexpected gem in Tenerife. Opened in 1997, it's the first center in Spain dedicated exclusively to butterflies. Inside its 400 m², seven-meter-high greenhouse, a controlled tropical climate reigns—between 24 and 29°C and 80% humidity—allowing some 800 butterflies of more than 150 species to fly freely as if they were in their natural habitat.
The cool thing is that you can see the entire life cycle: from eggs and caterpillars to chrysalides and adults ready to fly. New butterflies are born every day, and if you're in the right place, you can watch the hatching in its "laboratory"—a magical moment. I myself was amazed when I saw a monarch butterfly just emerging from its cocoon, its body larger than its still-folded wings.
The walk through the tropical garden is beautiful: small bridges over an artificial stream, a waterfall, and nectar-bearing and soft plants so butterflies can land on you if you're wearing light-colored or scented clothing. The large Attacus atlas, with wingspans of up to 30 cm, is one of the most striking specimens. Of course, you can't touch its delicate wings, but you can take photos or record videos with a flash without any problem. The grounds are fully accessible for people with reduced mobility.

Where to eat
Don Quicacho
Don Quicacho, in Garachico, is a small, artisanal Mexican food stand on the street with a sea view. It offers authentic Mexican street food, freshly made, quick, homemade, and very reasonably priced. It's ideal for a casual and tasty meal to enjoy on the seafront promenade in front of the stand.
What to see
Tensei Tenmoku
If you enjoy discovering hidden gems while strolling through Garachico, Tensei Tenmoku will captivate you. It's a contemporary sculpture called "Gate Without a Door," created in Carrara marble by the artist Kan Yasuda and placed facing the sea at the fishing pier. You walk up to it, admire it from different angles, and each time it transforms against the backdrop of the blue Atlantic—it's one of those places that always looks great in photos and simply makes you smile.
Activities
Caña y Ron
Caña y Ron is an agricultural and cultural project in Icod de los Vinos that revives the historical cultivation of sugarcane in Tenerife and connects it with the artisanal production of rum. It's a living farm where you can learn, walk, taste, and understand a key part of the islands' history.
Beaches
Charco Don Gabino
Charco Don Gabino, in Los Silos, is a coastal gem in northern Tenerife where lava and the sea merge into a natural pool of clear, calm waters. Away from mass tourism, it retains a relaxed, local atmosphere. It's easily accessible and offers a perfect spot for swimming, fishing, or the simple pleasure of gazing at the Atlantic from an authentic, unpretentious setting.
Nightlife
Shopping
Quesería Esencia Canaria
Quesería Esencia Canaria, in Garachico, is an artisanal cheese shop founded in 2023 that focuses on high-quality local products. Specializing in goat and sheep cheeses with a variety of options, it offers a thoughtful and modern experience: inclusive access, digital payment methods, and same-day delivery. Perfect for shopping or gifting an authentic taste of Tenerife.
Sports
Ciclismo - Ruta 1
One of the most spectacular cycling routes in northern Tenerife: the circular route that starts in Garachico and climbs toward Erjos, passes through Santiago del Teide, descends the winding Masca ravine, and returns along the coast through Buenavista. Volcanic landscapes, pine forests, hairpin bends, and views of the Atlantic make this demanding route a classic for cyclists seeking both physical challenge and natural beauty.
Trekking
Sendero Cuevas Negras
This circular trail combines the PR-TF53 and PR-TF54 routes, covering approximately 18 km in 5 to 6 hours. Starting in Los Silos, you climb to Erjos (almost 1,000 m), descend through the lush Barranco de Cuevas Negras, and pass through Las Moradas on the way back. The trail offers landscapes of laurel forest, forest, farmhouses, cobbled paths, and views of the sea and mountains. The difficulty is medium to high, but the panoramic views are well worth it.
