Centro de Interpretación del Mar y la Pesca de Tenerife
Punta Del Hidalgo

When you arrive at the CIMP in Punta del Hidalgo, the first thing that strikes you is how comprehensive the space is, despite its simplicity: it's located in the Tourist Office, very close to the borders of Anaga Rural Park, which frames it within a vibrant marine and coastal landscape. It focuses on environmental education, outreach, and highlighting both artisanal fishing and the importance of the sea for Tenerife.
Inside, there are permanent exhibitions dedicated to topics such as the differences between industrial fishing and artisanal fishing, marine biodiversity, the environmental values of the ocean floor, the impact of waste and discharges, and proposals for marine reserves of fishing interest. All this is presented with clear panels, infographics, local examples, and interactive material that invites reflection. They also hold talks, guided tours along the coast, and traveling presentations for schools, associations, or any group that wants to participate.
The CIMP not only informs, but also motivates: it tells you about the future we want, how to take care of the sea, and what you can do to keep this resource alive and healthy. Guided tours allow you to better understand traditional fishing methods, see how they work, and how they relate to the local community, the economy, and sustainability.
It's also an accessible place: it's open Monday through Friday, mornings, with slightly extended hours in the summer (it starts earlier on some days). Admission is free, making it ideal for both curious tourists and locals looking to learn something new. The staff is friendly: those who run it have technical and environmental knowledge and are willing to explain and share what they know.
If I had to recommend a practical visit, I'd say combine it with a walk along the coast of Punta del Hidalgo or a stop at a nearby viewpoint, to connect what you see inside the center with what you see outside: the sea, the artisanal boats, the coastal landscapes. For those who don't know much about the sea, it's perfect for understanding where the fish you eat comes from, how they're caught, what's at risk, and how we can all contribute.

What to see
Mirador de Jardina
The Jardina viewpoint, on the outskirts of La Laguna, offers one of the most beautiful views in northern Tenerife: the La Laguna valley with Mount Teide in the background. It's easily accessible, with parking and a rural setting of orchards and traditional houses. Ideal for stopping for a while, taking photos, and enjoying the scenery.
Activities
Área Recreativa Llano Los Viejos
If you're looking for a picnic area within Anaga that's more secluded and less crowded than others, Llano de Los Viejos has a very different feel. Here you're immersed in the laurel forest, with frequent mist, humidity, and that typical silence of the northern mountains. It's a more enclosed spot, perfect for relaxing, having a picnic or barbecue, and disconnecting from the hustle and bustle.
Beaches
Piscina natural de Jóver
The Jóver Natural Pool in Tejina is an authentic and tranquil coastal retreat, where the Atlantic Ocean softens between walls of black lava. Surrounded by seafaring houses and a pleasant local atmosphere, this pool offers clear waters and an ideal setting for relaxing, swimming, or enjoying the sound of the sea. Its traditional essence makes it one of the most authentic bathing areas in northern Tenerife.

Ron Guajiro
If you want to try a rum with a true Canarian identity, Guajiro is one of those that's part of the local culture. You'll notice it especially in the honey rum: sweet, smooth, and very easy to drink, perfect after a meal or on the rocks. They also have drier and oaked versions if you prefer something more robust. It's a very local product, the kind you'll find in traditional bars and shops around the island.
Sports
BMX Parque la Vega
The BMX circuit at Parque de La Vega in La Laguna is one of the most active spaces for freestyle enthusiasts in northern Tenerife. Surrounded by greenery and a youthful atmosphere, it offers a course with ramps, jumps, and modules ideal for practicing technique and style. It's a regular meeting point for local riders who appreciate its relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere, open to all levels.
Trekking
El Tomadero
A circular route in Anaga Rural Park connecting Punta del Hidalgo with El Tomadero, ascending via a channel carved into the rock and descending through the ravine. It's approximately 6 km with little elevation gain, but includes technical and exposed sections that increase the difficulty. The channel is in very good condition and clean, although it can be quite vertigo-inducing in some places. The descent through the ravine is rocky and uncomfortable. A short but demanding route, not recommended for people with vertigo.
