Acantilado de los Gigantes

Santiago del Teide

The Los Gigantes Cliffs, located between the municipalities of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide, are one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Tenerife. They are gigantic volcanic basalt walls that can reach up to 600 metres high, floating vertically over the Atlantic Ocean and forming part of the Teno Rural Park.

Formerly known by the Guanches as the ‘wall of hell’, these cliffs are impressive by contrast: black rock, deep sea and a seemingly endless horizon. From the mainland they can be seen from the port of Los Gigantes or from viewpoints such as Archipenque, which on clear days even offers views of La Gomera and the Punta de Teno lighthouse.

The best way to appreciate its magnitude is from the sea: you can go on boat trips, kayaking or snorkelling and diving routes around its base, where the seabed reaches some 30 m and is home to black coral, sponges, endemic fish and abundant seabirds such as the Cory's shearwater.

In short, the Cliffs of Los Gigantes are a natural spectacle in which sea and land meet with geological drama, marine biodiversity and an ideal environment both to contemplate in peace and quiet and to explore with unforgettable aquatic activities.
