Discovering the Piedra de la Rosa (Rose Rock), in the upper midlands of La Orotava, is like stumbling upon one of those geological wonders that needs no embellishment. At first glance, the rock resembles a monumental flower carved from stone, with a radial structure reminiscent of an open rose at the very edge of the forest landscape.
Its origin lies in a volcanic process as powerful as it is precise. As the basaltic lava cooled, the contraction generated internal fractures called diaclases (joints). In this case, these fractures arranged themselves radially, resulting in a structure that seems purposefully designed. You don't need to understand geology to appreciate it: simply approach and observe how the lava flow extends like an enormous stony body until it ends abruptly, revealing its rocky "inflorescence."
The surroundings enhance the experience. The pine forest and heathland complement the scene, and the viewpoint allows you to contemplate both the formation and the volcanic landscape that surrounds it.
