The trail leading to the Tahodio Pond is one of the most surprising routes due to its proximity to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Just minutes from the city center, this path transports visitors to a completely different environment, where silence, greenery, and the murmur of water prevail. The route begins in the Valleseco neighborhood and ascends gently along a well-marked path, skirting old terraces and rural houses that recall the area's agricultural past.
As you progress, the landscape changes. Ocean views blend seamlessly with the verdant hillsides, a mix of spurge, pines, and heather, creating a striking contrast that makes this hike a truly enriching experience. The trail culminates at the Tahodio Reservoir, a small valley nestled within a valley that seems frozen in time. Fed by the ravine of the same name, this spot offers a serene scene: the reflection of the sky on the water and the sound of the wind rustling through the pines.
The area is a popular meeting place for local hikers and photography enthusiasts, especially at dawn and dusk, when the light highlights the textures of the rock and the nuances of the green. Although the route is accessible, appropriate footwear is recommended, as some sections can be slippery after rain.
Historically, the Tahodio Reservoir was built to store water for the crops on the southern slopes of Anaga. Today, in addition to its hydraulic function, it has become a small natural refuge, a reminder of how humankind and the landscape have coexisted in balance for generations.
Walking to the Tahodio Pond is to rediscover the most tranquil and natural side of Santa Cruz: a nearby and perfect route to disconnect without leaving the city. A place where time seems to stand still and nature reveals itself with a simple and authentic beauty.

If you need a quiet place in the heart of Santa Cruz to stop for a moment, the TEA Art Library is perfect for escaping the city's hustle and bustle. Here you can sit and read, study, or simply spend some time in silence surrounded by books and contemporary architecture. The space is spacious, bright, and very pleasant, ideal for those seeking tranquility, culture, and a different atmosphere within the city.
Activities
Albergue Comarcal Valle Colino
The Valle Colino Regional Shelter in La Laguna is Tenerife's main shelter for abandoned animals. In addition to caring for and sheltering dogs and cats, it offers the opportunity to volunteer in its daily work: walking animals, helping with cleaning them, or assisting with adoption campaigns. A caring and emotionally rewarding experience for animal lovers.
Nightlife
Urban 180
If you enjoy sipping a drink with city views and continuing the night without leaving one spot, Azotea Urban 180 is one of those rooftop bars I love to visit. Located on the seventh floor of the Hotel Urban Anaga in Santa Cruz, it shows: you get a panoramic view of the city, the sunsets take on a whole new dimension, the music and cocktails liven up the atmosphere, and as night falls, the place transforms into a lively rooftop club with a great vibe and people ready to have a good time.

Sports
Santa Cruz Extreme
The Santa Cruz Extreme is an iconic mountain race in Tenerife, which runs through Anaga Rural Park and finishes in Santa Cruz. It has several categories (60 km, 33 km, 18 km, 10 km, and a vertical race), with steep slopes, routes along trails, and traditional farmhouses. Held in October, it attracts runners of many nationalities; it is also notable for its sustainable approach and for promoting the natural and rural value of Anaga.
Trekking
Sendero Los Catalanes
The Los Catalanes Trail, in the Anaga Mountains, combines rural history and spectacular landscapes. It's a medium-difficulty route that connects old farmhouses through terraced fields, laurel forest, and sea views. The contrast between the humid vegetation and the remains of traditional Canarian life make this route an authentic experience, highly representative of the greenest and most peaceful side of Tenerife.
