Playa la Arena

Tacoronte

Visiting La Arena Beach in Mesa del Mar, Tacoronte, is like discovering a hidden spot that combines a volcanic landscape, a calm sea, and a relaxed atmosphere. The black sand—fine, of volcanic origin—contrasts with the blue of the Atlantic and the green of the nearby cliffs, creating a unique aesthetic as soon as you park.

The beach is about 350 meters long and 30 meters wide, giving it a practical size: enough to spread out your towel, but without the feeling of a "massive mega beach." Access is relatively easy: you can get there by car or public transport, although the road down to the valley has sharp curves, which adds that "adventurous" touch of descending toward the sea.

What I particularly like is the combination of elements: the promenade that borders the beach, the services (showers, footbaths, trash cans), and the peaceful setting where families, locals, and visitors coexist without great fanfare. If you're looking for a day at the beach in the north of the island, with less of the "tourist show" and more of a "real beach," this place is a great choice.

A key distinguishing feature is the beach's renowned quality: it boasts the Blue Flag, which reflects its cleanliness, services, and overall good condition. Furthermore, the combination of volcanic landscape, cliffs, tranquility, and good access makes it a very solid option.

On the other hand, some details are worth keeping in mind: the parking lot is quite small and often full. Natural shade is also limited—as on many black sand beaches—so sunscreen, an umbrella, or a hat are essential.

In short: if you're in Tenerife and fancy a day at the beach that combines authentic nature, good accessibility, and a peaceful atmosphere, this beach is a safe bet. You'll love it if you're looking for something different from the typical "resort beach," with volcanic texture, calm sea, and an environment that invites you to linger.
