Must-try dishes
Crispy duck, sushi, gyozas
YAN Oriental Restaurant, located in Guargacho, has become a leading name in Asian cuisine outside the most crowded coastal areas. What sets it apart is not only its menu, but also how it combines freshness, flavor, and variety with a modern ambiance and friendly service.
Its menu includes a wide variety of sushi, which many describe as "some of the freshest in the area," crispy duck dishes, and flavorful ramen with a perfect balance of broth and ingredients. There are also plenty of starters such as steamed shrimp gyoza, dim sum, and crispy tempura, as well as options for those who prefer lighter dishes, with vegetables or mixed combinations, ensuring that both meat lovers and those seeking something milder will find something to their liking. Furthermore, the spicy or flavorful sauces are used sparingly, enhancing the dishes without overpowering them.
The restaurant combines an air-conditioned interior with a terrace, allowing for different atmospheres depending on the time of day (an al fresco dinner, a more relaxed lunch). The presentations are aesthetically pleasing, the value for money is praised in reviews, and the service is described as friendly, efficient, and attentive: some customers return because of these details and the feeling that each dish is well-prepared, not rushed.
What sets YAN apart from other Asian restaurants in Tenerife is its location: situated in Guargacho, it doesn't compete with the major tourist centers, but rather offers something that many residents and visitors who prefer something other than "pure tourism" value highly: authenticity, fresh ingredients, a relaxed atmosphere, and a good variety. Furthermore, its menu allows diners to discover Asian cuisine without needing extensive knowledge, thanks to the staff's recommendations.

Where to eat
D´Tapas
If you work in the Las Chafiras area and are looking for a simple place to have an early breakfast or a good lunch without spending a lot, Cafetería De Tapas is a very practical option. The place caters to local workers, so it opens early and is great for quick breakfasts and a set lunch menu for €11. The food is homemade, tasty, and well-prepared for the price, served in a clean and uncomplicated atmosphere.
What to see
La Hoya
The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest as an Ethnological Site, it preserves traditional architecture, historic paths, water sources, and agricultural terraces in a rural setting that has changed very little over time.
Activities
A.O.C. PETANCA, LOS CRISTIANOS
The A.O.C. Petanca Los Cristianos is a veteran club in the south of Tenerife, right across from the beach, where passion for this traditional sport is in the air. Located in a quiet, sunny area, it brings together local and visiting players looking for a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. More than just a court, it's a social meeting place where camaraderie, laughter, and healthy competition keep alive a deeply rooted custom in the Canary Islands.
Beaches
Playa de los Cristianos Puerto
Los Cristianos Beach, next to the port of the same name, is one of the most iconic beaches in southern Tenerife. Protected from the waves by the pier, it offers calm waters and golden sand, perfect for swimming and strolling. From the shore, you can observe the activity of the fishing port and the departure of ferries to La Gomera, combining a local atmosphere with the maritime charm of a traditional coastal town.
Nightlife
Roca Blanca
This beach club, located right on the seafront in one of the quietest areas of Los Cristianos, is ideal for enjoying a leisurely cocktail and stretching out the afternoon until sunset. It features a terrace with tables, a swimming pool, and Balinese beds, which should be reserved in advance. The atmosphere is relaxed, with music and a DJ, perfect for quiet get-togethers with friends or even for working from home with ocean views. It's not a place for formal dining, but rather for savoring the experience, the friendly service, and the sunset as the main attraction.
Shopping
Miel Tament
Tament, which means "honey" in the Amazigh language, is an artisanal gem produced on the same estate that makes Nevales de Abona wine, using Canarian black bees. It is multifloral, pure, and deep golden in color, with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness. Although it doesn't have an official organic seal, it is produced using sustainable and traditional methods. Like the wines, this product can only be found at the San Isidro Farmers Market, at Elsa's stand.
Sports
Circuito Motocross
The San Miguel de Abona Motocross Circuit is one of Tenerife's premier motocross venues. Its technically designed volcanic terrain combines jumps, tight turns, and fast sections, offering fun for both experienced and beginner riders. Located in an arid environment overlooking the sea, it is a popular meeting point for motorsports enthusiasts, with a local atmosphere, training sessions, and competitions throughout the year.
Trekking
Sendero Montaña Roja
Walking the circular route that starts in El Médano and heads toward Montaña Roja is like stepping into an otherworldly volcanic landscape: reddish sand, deep blue sea, and the wind that caresses you with every step. You can see World War II bunkers, aquatic birds, and panoramic views of the southern part of the island. You'll love it if you're looking for an easy hike with that "reconnect with nature" feel in southern Tenerife.
