Mirador La Garañona

El Sauzal

When you arrive at the La Garañona viewpoint in El Sauzal, the first thing that strikes you is the vastness of the landscape: you're standing on a cliff that drops more than 200 meters to the ocean, and as you look out, the Atlantic stretches as far as the eye can see, merging with the Acentejo coastline. The beauty of this place is that you don't need to walk long distances or follow complicated routes to feel that connection with the sea and nature; the viewpoint is practically integrated into the town, well signposted, and with nearby parking, making it very accessible for a short stroll or a stop during your day.

The site is much more than just an observation platform: it's designed as a small park with landscaped areas, benches, paths, and spaces where you can sit and contemplate the horizon. The mix of palm trees, succulents, and plants adapted to the sea breeze gives it a distinctly Atlantic coastal character, and the constant sound of the wind and waves accompanies every glance. As you approach the edge, the view of La Garañona beach and the coastline stretching towards Tacoronte makes you feel the immensity of the volcanic and oceanic landscape that defines northern Tenerife.

One of my favorite parts is the combination of nature and comfort: there are strategically placed benches so you don't have to stand, and a café with a terrace where you can enjoy the moment with a coffee or a pastry while the Atlantic unfolds its colors below you. The morning or afternoon light bathes everything in warm tones, especially on clear days, and the fresh air makes you want to stay a while longer, simply watching the sea change.

In short, Mirador La Garañona is one of those places that you can enjoy whether you're going alone to unwind or including it in a route along the north coast. It's accessible, with truly spectacular views and an environment designed to make the experience relaxing and memorable.

Where to eat

Ravelo el Canario

If you want to try traditional Canarian cuisine, you've come to the right place. At El Canario, you'll find home-style, unpretentious food with generous portions: escaldón (a Canarian stew), puchero (a hearty stew), fabada (Asturian bean stew), goat meat, carne fiesta (a Canarian dish), or rabbit—all well-prepared and very reasonably priced. The service is friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere relaxed, and it's not uncommon to find a queue. You'll leave full and eager to return.

What to see

Mafalda

A sculpture of Mafalda, the famous Quino's daughter, has been installed in El Sauzal, the work of Argentine sculptor Pablo Irrgang. Mafalda appears seated on a bench in front of the El Sauzal Theater, next to the Town Hall. The 80 cm figure is made of pigmented resin, inviting us to smile, reflect, and remember that childhood has a voice. It is a new and endearing cultural center in the center of town.

El Sauzal - Fuente del Pino

The route connecting El Sauzal with Fuente del Pino in La Matanza is a local trail, ideal for enjoying the tranquility of northern Tenerife. It runs through vineyards, ravines, and small rural roads, with views of the sea and Mount Teide. It's a relatively simple but charming route that combines nature and tradition, as the fountain was historically a meeting place for shepherds and neighbors.
