Bunker de San Andrés

San Andres

The San Andrés Bunker, located near the fishing village and the famous Las Teresitas beach, is part of the old military fortifications built in Tenerife during World War II. At a time when the islands could be threatened by naval or air raids, a network of bunkers and defensive positions was designed along the coast to protect strategic access points.

This particular bunker controlled the San Andrés seafront, a key point due to its proximity to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital and a vital location for trade and defense. Its sober and functional concrete structure was designed to house weapons and monitor the coast, offering soldiers effective protection against potential attacks.

Over time, the bunker lost its military function and remained a silent vestige of that historical period. Today, many visit it as a place steeped in memory, inviting them to imagine life in times of uncertainty and to reflect on the geostrategic importance of the Canary Islands.

In addition to its historical interest, its location is very attractive: with views of the Atlantic, the town of San Andrés, and the mountains that frame the landscape. For photography lovers, the contrast between the military architecture and the surrounding natural scenery makes it a very striking place. Although not a conventional tourist site, the San Andrés Bunker adds a unique cultural and heritage nuance to a visit to this coastal area in northeastern Tenerife.

Barranco del Cercado

This circular route through the Barranco del Cercado is a hidden gem in Anaga. It climbs from San Andrés along a trail that follows the ravine, between palm groves, reeds, pools, and laurel forest. It then connects with higher trails and descends along a different path, completing the loop. It's about 8km with steep climbs, but the scenery is worth it. If you like authentic, greenery, you'll love it.
