Sendero Roques de Garcia
Parque nacional del Teide

The Roques de García Trail is one of the most iconic hikes in Teide National Park, ideal for those who want to enjoy spectacular volcanic landscapes without requiring extensive physical fitness. This circular route of approximately 3.5 km, with a low elevation gain (about 175 meters), offers a varied route that borders unique rock formations sculpted by erosion and the passage of time. It begins right in front of the Parador de Las Cañadas, next to the famous La Ruleta viewpoint, where the world-famous Roque Cinchado rises, the "rock with a waist" that appears on old banknotes and thousands of tourist photos.
As you delve deeper into the trail, the surroundings seem like something from another planet. The roques—true natural sculptures—stand as witnesses to the island's volcanic past: La Catedral, Roque Cinchado, Roque García, and El Torrotito. All of this is framed by a monumental backdrop: Mount Teide watching from above and the red and gold contours of the Caldera de Las Cañadas unfolding around you.
The route is accessible, well-marked, and perfect for families, although there are sections with loose rocks where it's advisable to walk with some caution. Along the way, you'll also see unusual endemic plants such as the red tajinaste (red tajinaste) and the Teide broom (red broom), especially if you go in spring. What's more, on clear days, the deep blue sky and sunlight on the volcanic rock create a play of colors that seems straight out of a science fiction movie.
There's no shade or water along the entire route, so bring sunscreen, a hat, water, and comfortable shoes. Wind or sudden temperature changes are not uncommon, so a light jacket may also be helpful. The entire hike takes about two hours at a leisurely pace, allowing time to stop, breathe, take photos, and enjoy the silence that dominates this surreal yet beautiful landscape.
The Roques de García Trail isn't just a hike; it's a journey into the geological heart of Tenerife. Easy, beautiful, and very photogenic: a gem for those looking for a slice of Mount Teide without having to climb mountains.
