Chayofita Mountain is one of those small natural gems hidden amidst the urban development of southern Tenerife. Although barely over 100 meters high, its privileged position offers spectacular panoramic views that combine the intense blue of the Atlantic, the silhouettes of the hotels, and the contrast with the volcanic terrain.
The trail starts from the lower part of Los Cristianos and ascends a well-defined slope of dry, stony terrain. In just a few minutes, you gain enough altitude to begin to notice how the noise of the city dissipates and the sea breeze appears. The route can easily be completed in about 20 or 30 minutes and is suitable for almost anyone, even families with children.
The summit of Chayofita is a natural viewpoint. From there, you can see the beaches of Los Cristianos and Las Vistas, the port with the ferries to La Gomera, and, to the north, Guaza Mountain and Mount Teide on clear days. Many locals and visitors climb at sunset, when the golden light transforms the cityscape into a sea of reflections and shadows on the ocean.
More than a physical challenge, this trail is a visual and emotional escape: a brief respite from the bustle of tourism in the south. It lacks abundant vegetation or shaded areas, so it's advisable to bring water and sunscreen, but its reward is immediate. From the top, you can fully appreciate the power of the contrast that characterizes Tenerife: the balance between volcanic nature, city, and sea.
Hiking Chayofita Mountain is a short, easy, and very local experience. A perfect walk for those looking for something different without straying far from the coast, where each step reveals a new perspective on one of the most iconic landscapes in the south of the island.
