Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB

The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is much more than a mountain race; it's an experience that covers almost all the landscapes that make the island special. Organized by the Tenerife Island Council and Ideco, it is part of the prestigious UTMB World Series circuit, which gives it international recognition and a very high level of organization.

The route traverses extreme points: it starts from the coast, climbs to volcanic cones and badlands, climbs to the summit of Teide (at 3,555 m altitude), descends through pine and laurel forests, and ends again at the sea on the north coast. The contrasting terrain—lava, volcanic rock, steep gradients, celestial stretches above the clouds—make it a demanding but also spectacular race for those who run it.

There are several modalities depending on your level: 110 km / 6,250 m elevation gain; 73 km / ~3,150 m; 47 km / ~2,600 m; 24 km / ~1,300 m. In addition to the usual events, there are also versions such as relays, the popular Vertical Night Challenge (a short section with vertical climbs at night), family and children's races, and adapted options for people with disabilities.

As for dates, there is a recent change: the 2025 edition was moved up to March 27-29, instead of June, as a measure to avoid extreme heat and risks in Teide National Park. Registration usually opens in October of the previous year, with priority given to runners with a UTMB Index score.

Thousands of people participate, many of them from outside Spain: the race attracts runners of dozens of nationalities, becoming one of the most anticipated and renowned trail running events of the year. For mountain running enthusiasts, the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB is not only a sporting challenge, but also a sensory journey, combining wild nature, changing weather, volcanic landscapes, and the thrill of running beyond your limits.
