Santa Cruz Extreme

The Santa Cruz Extreme, also known as the Anaga Trail, is more than a mountain race: it's a celebration of Anaga's landscape, culture, and nature. Organized by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council together with the Santa Cruz Sustainable Foundation, the race explores the trails that connect hamlets such as Afur, Los Catalanes, Valle Brosque, Igueste de San Andrés, Roque Negro, and others, covering a large part of the Anaga Massif Biosphere Reserve.

There are five events for different levels: the Anaga XTRM 60K, which allows individual, couple, or relay competitions; the 33K; the 18K; the 10K; and the Vertical event, a timed, fast climb the previous afternoon, which connects urban areas and mountains (for example, Barrio Nuevo to Las Mesas) with spectacular views of Santa Cruz.

The courses are not easy: the 60 km race has a vertical drop of over 5,100 meters, while the other routes also involve demanding climbs, technical descents, steep trails, and paths with very varied terrain.

Held every year in October, registration opens in advance. The finish line is usually in Plaza de España, in the center of Santa Cruz, which adds to the excitement of finishing the race in the city after touring the mountains.

A fact that few people know: the Santa Cruz Extreme has Environmental Quality certification from the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME) and Europarc, which implies a true commitment to the environment, sustainable management, minimizing waste, protecting the trails, and encouraging local participation.

Hundreds of runners of many nationalities participate, with multiple categories, including relay options and accessible modalities. Each edition also stands out for mobilizing the rural environment of Anaga, showcasing its natural and cultural richness.
