Casa Jose (El Tejadito)
La Vitoria de Acentejo

Stepping into Guachinche Casa Jose, known to many as El Tejadito, is like stepping into the heart of Canarian tradition in La Victoria de Acentejo. From the moment you sit down, you feel like you're in an authentic place, where life isn't complicated: what truly matters here is the house wine and the food prepared the old-fashioned way.
The menu is simple, with dishes that don't try to impress with their names, but rather with their flavour. I appreciate that there are no endless menus or exotic ingredients: there are stuffed potatoes with a texture that reminds you of the origins of each flavour; there's escaldón de gofio, which is practically a symbol of tradition; and there's grilled rabbit with just the right amount of smokiness you'd expect from a well-prepared home-style kitchen.
The wine deserves its own mention: it's house-grown, and as in true guachinches, its quality is above average compared to a typical restaurant. I like to order a glass and let the wine's character accompany me as I eat. The wine changes every season, and that detail alone speaks volumes about why these kinds of places are more than just about food: they're a meeting point between the land, the people, and the table.
The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried. Here, you're not expected to rush out the door; you're expected to savor your meal, chat with your companions, and experience the true essence of a guachinche, in one of Tenerife's most deeply rooted wine-growing regions.
There are practical details that also matter: they don't accept credit cards, and the seasonal selection changes depending on wine availability. This might seem inconvenient if you come with different expectations, but for me, it's part of what this place is: authentic, unfiltered, and unpretentious—simply good Canarian food paired with a wine that speaks to the place where it's produced.
