Chayofita Mountain is one of those small natural gems hidden amidst the urban development of southern Tenerife. Located between Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, this ancient volcanic cone offers a short, accessible, and surprisingly rewarding hiking experience. Although its height barely exceeds 100 meters, its privileged position affords spectacular panoramic views that combine the deep blue of the Atlantic, the silhouettes of the hotels, and the contrast with the volcanic terrain.

The trail starts from the lower part of Los Cristianos and ascends a well-marked slope of dry, stony ground. In just a few minutes, you gain enough altitude to begin noticing how the noise of the city dissipates and the sea breeze appears. The route can easily be completed in about 20 or 30 minutes of uphill hiking and is suitable for almost anyone, including families with children.

The summit of Chayofita is a natural viewpoint. From there, you can see the beaches of Los Cristianos and Las Vistas, the port with the ferries to La Gomera, and, to the north, Montaña de Guaza and Mount Teide on clear days. Many locals and visitors climb at sunset, when the golden light transforms the cityscape into a sea of reflections and shadows on the ocean.

More than a physical challenge, this trail is a visual and emotional escape: a brief respite from the tourist bustle of the south. It doesn't have abundant vegetation or shaded areas, so it's advisable to bring water and sun protection, but the reward is immediate. From the summit, you understand the striking contrast that characterizes Tenerife: the balance between volcanic nature, city, and sea.

Hiking on Montaña de Chayofita is a short, easy, and very local experience. A perfect walk for those looking for something different without straying far from the coast, where each step reveals a new perspective on one of the most emblematic landscapes in the south of the island.

What to see

La Hoya

The hamlet of La Hoya, in San Miguel de Abona, is one of those places that helps you understand what life was like in southern Tenerife before tourism. Beaches

Playa de los Cristianos Puerto

Los Cristianos Beach, next to the port of the same name, is one of the most iconic beaches in southern Tenerife. Protected from the waves by the pier, it offers calm waters and golden sand, perfect for swimming and strolling. From the shore, you can observe the activity of the fishing port and the departure of ferries to La Gomera, combining a local atmosphere with the maritime charm of a traditional coastal town.

Nightlife

Roca Blanca

This beach club, located right on the seafront in one of the quietest areas of Los Cristianos, is ideal for enjoying a leisurely cocktail and stretching out the afternoon until sunset. It features a terrace with tables, a swimming pool, and Balinese beds, which should be reserved in advance. The atmosphere is relaxed, with music and a DJ, perfect for quiet get-togethers with friends or even for working from home with ocean views. It's not a place for formal dining, but rather for savoring the experience, the friendly service, and the sunset as the main attraction.

Trekking

Punta Rasca

The El Palm-Mar to Punta de Rasca trail runs along the southern coast of Tenerife, crossing a volcanic and semi-desert landscape with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic. Along the way, you can spot dolphins and, occasionally, sea turtles from the cliffs and high points. The route culminates at the Punta de Rasca lighthouse, a secluded and photogenic spot where the sea crashes forcefully against black rocks and unique coastal formations.
