Titolo 4

Charco de la Virgen

La Jaca

Walking to the Charco de la Virgen (Virgin's Pool) in La Jaca is a short coastal adventure that takes you away from the busier areas of Tenerife and brings you to a corner where nature and village life meet. La Jaca is a coastal neighborhood in the municipality of Arico, with a wide beach, a few houses, small bars, and a peaceful atmosphere.

The pool itself is a natural swimming hole formed by the sea, very close to the beach of the same name. It's not huge, but it's large enough to take a refreshing dip or sit on the edge with the waves breaking nearby and the volcanic rock surrounding you. At low tide, the water collects in a kind of natural "jacuzzi," shallow and with a rocky backrest that serves as a seat.

Getting here on foot from the center of La Jaca is easy: simply follow the coastline along informal paths and trails, with stretches of beach, volcanic rocks, and sections of gentle urban promenade. It's not a long or technical hike, but you do need to pay attention to the terrain, which can change from sand to rock to a path.

What strikes me most is the feeling of visiting a place not designed for tourists, but for those who enjoy the sea and the natural environment without artifice. You can sit, watch the water come in and out with the tides, feel the texture of the rock under your feet, and stay there as long as you like.

This cove doesn't have many facilities or services, but it does have a simple and very authentic charm. If you're looking for nature, the sea, volcanic landscapes, and a more local coastal experience in Tenerife, this little cove and its surroundings are well worth a visit.
