Mirador de la Corona

When you arrive at the Mirador de La Corona, the first thing that strikes you is the sweeping views: you're above Icod el Alto, on the Tigaiga slope, at an altitude of about 750 meters, and you have before you the full splendor of the La Orotava Valley: the intense green of the crops, the scattered population centers, and on clear days, the northern coast jutting out into the sea.

The road to get there already prepares you: you pass through Icod el Alto, passing by traditional farms and orchards, scattered houses, stretches with views that invite you to stop. Upon arrival, you find a parking lot; it's not huge, but enough. There's space to rest, leave the car, take photos, and breathe. From the ledge, cliffs, deep ravines, palm groves, and that blend of the human and the natural can be seen, ensuring that the panorama stays with you.

What makes it even more special for me is that La Corona isn't just "a pretty view": it's a living place. It's a paragliding launch site, which adds excitement. Seeing wings unfurl in the wind, pilots preparing, the verticality of the slope—all of this adds an extra dimension. It's not something you just see in photos; you feel it: the wind, the height, the depth of the valley.

I also like the viewpoint's combination of accessibility and nature. It's relatively easy to get there by car via the El Lance road, TF-342, and is well signposted. For those who don't rent a car, buses run relatively close by. There are no major infrastructure like huge cafes or museums, which preserves its tranquil essence, with few distractions beyond the landscape.

If you're interested, I would recommend going at sunset: see how the light changes, how the valleys turn golden, how the contours fade into the ocean's horizon. Or very early at dawn, if you can get up early, because when dawn breaks, there's a very special stillness.
