📋No permits required
El Sombrero de Chasna is one of the most unique peaks in southern Tenerife, known for its distinctive shape and its value as a natural viewpoint. The route to its summit generally begins near Vilaflor (Las Lajas Recreational Park), the highest municipality in Spain, and follows ancient paths that were used for centuries by shepherds and farmers to travel between the midlands and the peaks.
The trail combines sections of Canary Island pine forest with more arid and volcanic areas, reflecting the landscape transitions typical of the Corona Forestal Natural Park. As you ascend, the landscape opens up, and the mountain becomes a magnificent balcony overlooking the Ucanca Valley, Mount Teide, and Las Cañadas, as well as the south of the island.
This route is not only a natural spectacle but also a journey into Tenerife's cultural history. For generations, mountain trails were vital to the traditional economy: they served for grazing, transporting goods, and connecting communities on different sides of the island. El Sombrero de Chasna preserves that mountain essence linked to rural life and human endeavor.
Today, it is a challenging but highly rewarding hike for trekkers seeking spectacular views and a connection to Tenerife's mountaineering tradition. The combination of tranquility, nature, and breathtaking panoramas makes this route an unforgettable experience for those who wish to discover the island from its volcanic and cultural heart.

At Dulcería Hermano Pedro, you'll find homemade pastries, freshly baked and bursting with traditional flavor. You can sit down for a coffee and a slice of cake or simply take some local sweets to go. It's a friendly, village-style place where the service and the quality of the products go hand in hand.
What to see
Minas de San José
When you arrive at the San José Mines, you feel like you've landed on another planet. The reddish soil, ochre tones, and volcanic formations create an almost Martian landscape that changes with the light every minute. It's one of those places near Mount Teide where you'll find yourself stopping to take photos without even realizing it, but beyond the striking image, you also perceive the geological force that defines this part of the island.
