Barranco del Infierno

Adeje

If you feel like getting out of the sun and beach and seeing another side of Tenerife, the Barranco del Infierno is a brutal experience. It's in Adeje, in the south of the island, very close to the tourist area, but when you enter the path, you feel like you've stepped into another world: pure nature, silence and wild landscapes.

It's a route of about 6.5 kilometres in total (outward and return), with a gentle slope and a good path, so you don't need to be a hiking pro. With comfortable shoes, water and a willingness to walk, you'll be fine. Of course, there are parts with some shade, but also many areas in the sun, so it's best to bring protection and leave early, especially if it's hot.

The most spectacular thing is not only the surroundings - with huge rock walls, typical canyon vegetation and incredible views - but at the end you'll find a 200-metre waterfall which, on a dry volcanic island like Tenerife, feels almost magical. Swimming is not allowed, but it's totally worth it just to see it and hear the water cascading down.

All in all, it will take you between 2 and 3 hours, depending on your pace and how much you stop to take pictures (which will surely be a lot, because the place is photogenic as can be).

Where to eat

Dulceria Hermano Pedro

If you're passing through Vilaflor and craving something truly sweet, this is one of those places you absolutely have to stop. At Dulcería Hermano Pedro, you'll find homemade pastries, freshly baked and bursting with traditional flavor. You can sit down for a coffee and a slice of cake or simply take some local sweets to go. It's a friendly, village-style place where the service and the quality of the products go hand in hand.

What to see

Pino Gordo

Standing before the Pino Gordo in Vilaflor de Chasna is truly awe-inspiring. It's not just big: it's colossal. Standing over 45 meters tall with a trunk so wide it takes several people to encircle it, this Canary Island pine conveys an almost tangible sense of age and resilience. Looking up at it is dizzying and makes you feel small before one of Tenerife's great natural giants.

Activities

Las lajas

If you want the ultimate mountain adventure, the Las Lajas Recreation Area is one of the best spots in Tenerife. Here you can spend the whole day among pine trees, with barbecues, picnic tables, children's play areas, and plenty of space to relax. What's more, it's not just a picnic area: several hiking trails start from here, so you can combine a walk and a barbecue in one day.

Beaches

Playa de los Cristianos Puerto

Los Cristianos Beach, next to the port of the same name, is one of the most iconic beaches in southern Tenerife. Protected from the waves by the pier, it offers calm waters and golden sand, perfect for swimming and strolling. From the shore, you can observe the activity of the fishing port and the departure of ferries to La Gomera, combining a local atmosphere with the maritime charm of a traditional coastal town.

Nightlife

Roca Blanca

This beach club, located right on the seafront in one of the quietest areas of Los Cristianos, is ideal for enjoying a leisurely cocktail and stretching out the afternoon until sunset. It features a terrace with tables, a swimming pool, and Balinese beds, which should be reserved in advance. The atmosphere is relaxed, with music and a DJ, perfect for quiet get-togethers with friends or even for working from home with ocean views. It's not a place for formal dining, but rather for savoring the experience, the friendly service, and the sunset as the main attraction.

Shopping

Dulcería Vilaflor

If you want to try truly traditional sweets from our island and you're in Vilaflor, this is the place to stop. At Dulcería Vilaflor, you'll find time-honored recipes, made by hand with natural ingredients. Almond cakes, rosquetes (ring-shaped pastries), and mantecados (shortbread cookies) with that old-fashioned flavor that's hard to find these days. It's a simple, village-style place where you can buy, taste, and quickly understand why they've been in business for so many years.

Sports

Tenerife Top Training

Tenerife Top Training is a high-performance sports center in La Caleta where you'll find Olympic-size swimming pools, football pitches, gyms, tennis courts, padel courts, a spa, and more. It's the perfect place if you want to train hard, get in shape, or practice a variety of sports with professional facilities.

Trekking

Montaña Tejina

If you enjoy less crowded hiking in southern Tenerife, this circular route around Montaña de Tejina is a very complete option. You'll walk approximately 13 km around this large volcanic crag, over a thousand meters high, which was a sacred site and key center of social interaction for the Guanches. The route passes through ravines, ancient threshing floors, small hermitages, and traditional agricultural remains. There's hardly any shade, but in return, you'll have open panoramic views for much of the way and a constant sense of a rural, volcanic, and mystical landscape.
