Parque Nacional del Teide

Teide National Park is the volcanic heart of Tenerife and one of the most iconic natural areas in all of Spain. Declared a national park on January 22, 1954, it now covers almost 19,000 hectares, making it the oldest and largest park in the Canary Islands. In 2007, it was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

This space combines volcanic mountains, a huge caldera called Las Cañadas, cones such as Teide itself, Pico Viejo, and numerous pitons, domes, lava flows, volcanic caves, and lunar landscapes that seem from another planet. Furthermore, the extreme altitude (up to 3,715 meters) imposes subalpine climatic conditions: highly variable temperatures, strong solar radiation, low relative humidity, and the possibility of snow in winter.

There is a network of trails with more than 150 km of marked routes for different levels, from gentle walks to high-altitude excursions. You'll find unique plant species such as the red tajinaste (Echium wildpretii), the Teide broom (Spartocytisus supranubius), Teide violets, grasses, rockroses, and other endemic species that only exist here or on the islands. As for vertebrate fauna, there are the black lizard, birds such as the Teide blue finch, kestrels, blackbirds, and other species, although the most numerous and diverse are the insects and other invertebrates.

Visiting Teide is not just seeing a volcano, but also gazing into the geological history of the Canary Islands, contemplating breathtaking landscapes, seeing the transition of vegetation as you climb, experiencing the starry sky like few others, and feeling the immensity and height. It is one of those places that move you: powerful nature, raw beauty, clean air, and comforting silence.
