Masca

Buenavista del norte

Masca is a historic and natural gem located approximately 650 meters above sea level, in the heart of Teno Rural Park. It is home to just 90 inhabitants living in traditional houses made of volcanic stone, terracotta wood, and mud, arranged in four hamlets that adapt perfectly to the rugged terrain. Its cobblestone streets rise up short steps, lined with typical flowers and dotted with balconies and patios.

From its viewpoint, you can contemplate the impressive valley of ravines and the coast. Traditionally isolated, Masca was only accessible on foot or on horseback, which facilitated the preservation of its architecture and landscape. The Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception, next to a giant laurel tree, dominates the main square, where locals and travelers gather to chat or stop among bars and local crafts.

Masca is also the gateway to the famous Masca Ravine, a 10-km round-trip hike that descends rocky walls to the volcanic beach. The trail requires preparation: a helmet, water, appropriate footwear, and a reservation are necessary, as the route is very popular. The gorge alternates between alabaster landscapes, isolated palm trees, and views of the ocean that feel close at hand.

In the village, there is a small ethnographic museum housed in an old house that explains history, Guanche culture, and island ways of life linked to terraced agriculture. When evening falls and the sea is visible from above, Masca transforms into a panoramic view of nature. It is a magical place, ideal for those seeking authenticity, breathtaking panoramas, and a slice of Tenerife that feels removed from the modern world.

Masca is perfect if you want to hike through ravines, discover rural architecture, enjoy local food on terraces with panoramic views, and lose yourself in a landscape where silence and the cliffs are the protagonists.
