Beaches
Talking about Tenerife without mentioning its beaches would be impossible, because they are part of the island's essence. The beauty of it is that there isn't just one "beach side," but rather an incredible variety that changes depending on where you are on the island. In the south, for example, you'll find wide, golden sands like Las Américas, Los Cristianos, or El Médano, where there's always a buzz, beach bars, water sports, and almost guaranteed sunshine year-round. They're perfect if you're looking for comfort and plenty of life around.
In contrast, the north has a wilder feel, with black volcanic sand beaches like Benijo or Bollullo, where the waves crash powerfully and the landscape is picture-perfect. Here, the plan is more about disconnecting and enjoying nature, surrounded by cliffs and vegetation. Of course, they tend to be less touristy and have stronger waves, so they also offer that touch of adventure.
But Tenerife goes far beyond its classic beaches. The island is full of hidden coves reached by trails, perfect for those seeking tranquility; natural pools created by lava that allow for safe swimming in crystal-clear waters; and rock pools that locals enjoy as true hidden treasures overlooking the Atlantic. Places like the Garachico pools, the La Laja pools, or Bajamar show another side of the sea in the Canary Islands: more intimate, more authentic.
The good thing is that Tenerife always has something for everyone: from spending the day at an elegant beach club by the sea to taking a sandwich and discovering a hidden cove. And best of all, the island's climate allows you to enjoy all of this practically any time of year.
In short, Tenerife's beaches are not just places to sunbathe: they are landscapes and experiences that combine sand, volcanic rock, and the sea in all its forms. Each visit is a perfect excuse to return and continue discovering new corners by the ocean.
