Playa de Benijo

Taganana

Benijo Beach is, without a doubt, one of Tenerife's wildest and most iconic gems. Located at the northern tip of the island, within the Anaga Rural Park, this spot combines the power of the Atlantic Ocean with the rugged beauty of the volcanic landscape. Getting here is an experience in itself: the road winds between laurel-covered mountains, offering spectacular views of the valley and the sea before descending to the small hamlet of Benijo.

The beach opens up like a natural amphitheater of fine, black sand, flanked by the majestic rocks of Benijo and La Rapadura, which emerge from the water like eternal guardians of the coastline. The sound of the sea is constant and powerful, reminding us that this coast is not for inattentive bathers. The currents can be strong, which is why it's more a place to contemplate, walk barefoot on the wet sand, and feel the energy of the Atlantic than to spend a typical day at the beach.

However, that wild character is precisely what makes it unique. There are no hammocks or beach bars here; just nature in its purest state. At low tide, small natural pools form where the water warms in the sun, perfect for cooling off safely. Photographers and lovers of tranquility find their own paradise in Benijo, especially at sunset.

The magical moment comes when the sun sets behind the rocks: the sand turns golden, the waves shimmer with copper reflections, and the sky fills with violet and pink hues. It's one of Tenerife's most famous sunsets, and it's not uncommon to see locals and visitors sitting on the sand in silence, simply observing the spectacle.

Near the beach, there are a few family-run restaurants serving fresh fish, wrinkled potatoes, and Canarian mojo sauce, where you can enjoy a simple but authentic meal while listening to the sea. Everything in Benijo conveys authenticity and a connection to the land: a reminder that Tenerife's beauty lies not only in its tourist areas, but also in these hidden corners that preserve the island's soul.
