El Bollullo

La Orotava

El Bollullo Beach is located just north of Puerto de la Cruz, in the El Rincón area (La Orotava). It's a beach with a wild volcanic structure, surrounded by green cliffs and protected from mass tourism. The black sand is fine and warm underfoot, and the sea, when calm, leaves clear waters tinged with turquoise.

Access requires a small effort: arriving from Puerto de la Cruz, take a narrow road that runs through banana plantations and leads to a small parking lot. From there, a descending path and some stairs lead directly to the beach in about 10–15 minutes. It's also possible to walk from Puerto de la Cruz on a scenic route that runs along the coast for about 30–45 minutes.

The beach measures about 200 m long by 40 m wide, a generous amount of space considering it's surrounded by almost untouched nature. The waves are often strong and the currents can be strong, so it's advisable to follow the signs and exercise caution when swimming. This is part of its appeal: it's a spot beloved by local surfers and adventurous bathers.

There are few amenities: a beach bar where you can buy drinks, snacks, and homemade tapas; a clifftop restaurant with panoramic views; sun lounger and umbrella rentals; and a lifeguard on duty during high season. There are no permanent showers or changing rooms, so it's recommended to bring only what you need for the day.

The atmosphere at El Bollullo is authentic: families from the north mingle with visitors who appreciate the natural landscape, the sound of the sea, and the feeling of being in a special corner of the island. When the wind dies down, you can even see a marine sanctuary in a small cave where the Virgin of Carmen is venerated. At sunset, the sky and sea change colors, and the beach becomes a unique visual spectacle.

Perfect if you're looking to unwind and soak up the volcanic nature without missing out on a local beach bar and a stroll among banana trees. El Bollullo is an authentic retreat on the north coast of Tenerife—a place where the island shows itself raw, real, and beautiful.
